The whole point of the "relief valve" payoff was to put employees in a "better mood". Those with better moods frequently lose their vigilance and the fire in their belly. Looks like with some, Doug, Scott and Jerry scored another home run and given that, I think it will weaken any ALPA consideration here.
The real beauty is they don't have to pay off for a year.
The ROI for Parker with this move is excellent. This is the future, that being a pilot group played like chumps repeatedly because they know nothing else but always, always, always showing the willingness to be blinded by a quick payoff that APPEARS to be free. NOTHING is free with him and we'll experience this again in the future. We are so predictable I don't think he even needs a Jerry anymore.

I must have the rare ability to stay in a very good mood while keeping plenty of "fire in the belly." It happens to be a personal choice I make every day: I find plenty of things to feel blessed about every day, yes, including my amazing job as a domestic AA 737 FO and yes, including the profit sharing announcement that will put more money in my pocket...among tons of other things that I count as blessings.
That said, I have no problem continuing to strive for a switch to ALPA, as well as hold management accountable for all the contractual failures. I can do all this and still be in a great mood.
Rather than focusing on their strategy behind the profit sharing, I choose to enjoy the extra $$$ while continuing to fight for what we can control.

Amen brother! Finally someone who gets it around here.

I'm going to go have a good cry now and take the rest of the day off to emotionally recover from this revelation.

I suppose I shouldn't have quoted you as I know nothing will temper this fire in your belly and that's a good thing. My point was generality. Placating pilots with scraps has been a long and effective strategy for management and so it goes. I've run into several pilots who now think Parker had "come around" and so I see success and congratulate him on another well played run down the field. Knowing pilots in general, I'm more convinced then ever he'll have plenty of future effective plays.
Just so you know this PS give is for the entire employee group. I highly doubt this is meant to placate pilots. They aren't that stupid

I'm not sure about your choice in beer
, and not sold on ALPA, but agree with the rest 100%I still get awe inspired that I'm able, blessed and fortunate enough to follow my childhood dream, live in base and most important, have great family and friends. That being said - well, actually I think aa73 nailed the rest!

Pilots will bee-atch no matter how good they have it. Just in their dna.
Is this as good a deal as united and delta? Nope.
Is this better than what we had? Yep.
Will this put more money in our pockets next year? Yep.
Sure, it's a strategic move. So what? Analyze away. End result is that we increase our earnings, albeit not as lucratively as our brethren. But it's a start.
Small victories folks. I'm in a better mood today than yesterday.
And I'll be standing in line with jcountry to collect your "slap in the face" checks.

Dude, you're messin' up a pefectly fine *****-fest
Anyone with half a brain sees this for what it is, no one is going to go all googlymoogly over P/K over it, and not that many people are going to do anything very much different in the long run, proving Doug's previous incredibly stupid public comment more or less correct.
Take the money, you earned it.
If you do a good job, you'll keep doing it.
If you only do enough to keep from getting fired, you will keep doing that too.
