I'm trying to wrap my head around what this could/would mean for those of us in the pool waiting on a class date at Atlas.

ANY input would be most welcome. I'm giving up great seniority and job security at my regional to make this move to Atlas. I'd hate to jeopardize what I've got.

I'd say you guys are fine. Even IF Southern merged with Atlas (and right now it's just an acquisition) it'll be months, maybe even a year before that process even begins. Atlas needs guys on their seniority list now to fly their airplanes. Southern, right now, is nothing more than a path to more business ventures for Atlas down the road. Too early to tell, but I'd say business/hiring will continue as planned at Atlas.

Just my opinion, as in waiting for class as well, Southern's pilot group is significantly smaller and they are having trouble finding pilots. I don't think they are an immediate threat to your job. Who knows how the whole thing will pan out, but it's going to take a little bit.

I think it's more about getting a 777 program.

Guys in the pool don't sweat it an ounce. This is only going to increase the need at Atlas. Two new aircraft veins to fill. Think Atlas will just stick with 4 777's? No way. 737's: only a few actually on order, the rest are old 73-4's with the DHL door mods. But, still need butts in the seats, with a lot more coming. That said, I fear the Southern Contract is going to be a huge anchor around our feet heading into negotiations. Had no idea the rates were that bad there. If we obtain our targeted gains at Atlas, this will be near 50% raises for the Southern boys. Good for them!

Atlas already has a 777 program. They don't need southern for that.

They have a program? Or they own 777s? There's a big difference. Not being facetious, I'm curious. I've always wondered about their 777s. I think AeroLogic has 1 or 2? Has Atlas themselves ever operated them, or just leased them?

Leased them. MIA instructors have gone to training on the 777 and rumor has it that there is a training program that can be started in a months time or less. Supposedly there is a potential for an Emirates Cargo contract. Supposedly...

Yes we have several check airmen all typed and ready to go and there is a program in place already. Training department confirmed this. All we need is approval between union and company, planes and warm bodies :-)

Absolutely this. I'm gravely concerned about how the southern contract may affect us moving forward.
