Hey all, I just wanted to pass on some new info for those keeping track.

I got the call this morning, and was asked after it if I could take the test "as soon as possible". So, being the unemployed, anxious to roll, study nerd that I am, I took it just as soon as I had my references lined up. In short, I got the "P" I was looking for, so now it's a waiting game. Having said that, I'll break down some of the stuff that happened in the last few days.

I was at the job fair in ORD, and while I can't say how much it helped, it didn't hurt either. Brittany and the other gentleman there (whose name escapes me right now, as my mind is still spinning from the tech eval) were both friendly, and seem like good folks. I spoke with the gentleman, and basically made up my mind that I had about 30 seconds to sell myself, so essentially, I started talking as soon as I got up there. Basically, I answered most of the questions in the phone interview before he even had a chance to ask. We talked for a short bit more, and that was it. I did get a chance to meet "gvinflight" there, and he is good people. I hope we both get on at Atlas. I may have seen some of the rest of you, but the turnout was huge, and all the blue suits can run together sometimes.

The phone interview this morning was actually pretty short because of my background. I am furloughed World Airways, so I think they figured I had a pretty good feel for what Atlas does.

So, with regards to the tech test here's a few impressions I got from it. I can't really give specific gouge on the questions, other than what has already been shown here, at least not yet. When my brain spins down a bit, I'll see what I remember.

1) The questions are not always easy to read, and the various answers are not always short. Plan on reading all of them carefully. There can be very similar sounding answers with only a very slight change in parameters like "Wind 140 deg T at 14kph" v "Wind 140 deg M at 14kts". It's been said before, and I'll say it again, RTFQ and RTFAs!

2) I was surprised at the number of questions straight out of the ATP Written book. If you can have a searchable electronic copy handy that will be IMMENSELY helpful for some of your "Huh!?" moments. I had gone over likely sections a few times, but even then, I was caught flat footed.

3) Subjects that you might not be studying enough: icing, MELs, jetstreams, visual illusions (this one caught me a bit).

4) Study your METARs and TAFs. There will be quite a few of these, and they are wordy questions likely to eat up some time. Know. Them. Cold.

5) The gouge that has been posted here is good to know verbatim as you will see some of the exact questions, and you can rip through the answers saving precious time for other ones. It's just as important to know the basic theory behind all the answers .

6) Page 102 of the NATS manual (13.3) will help with most of the questions you might get asked.

OK, so now it's a waiting game, but I feel pretty good overall as I was able to keep the WAGs and SWAGs to a minimum.

My stats:
~10500 hrs Total Time
~9000 hrs Turbine
~5000 hrs Turbine PIC
~2700 hrs and 5.5 years heavy international experience
2 internal recs

I'll answer all questions that I can here, since I don't think I have PM privileges yet. LOL.

P.S. Here's a link to a set of PDF Jepp plates for JFK. I found them useful as the plates on the test are a bit on the small side.

Somewhere in this gigantic thread is a link to a copy of the ATP written bank. It may not be complete or up to date, but it is very helpful. My search skills have failed me just now trying to find it, but there is one in here, and one of the smart folks here will know where.

Hvyhauler- what was your mastery score?? I took mine this morning, I have a P and a Passed, but my score is nowhere near the "magical 66"!! Truth be told, I can't understand how anyone could finish that test in the aloted time without ALOT of external help!
