Rhinoflyer,

What did you study for the test and was it useful?

Thanks

From what I have heard, there is not too much studying you can do for this. But keep the ATP test book out and have a few lifelines (friends) standing by on a conference call.

Any way you can manage to get to the next round is ok by me. Good luck.

HercDriver130 09-07-2010 11:42 PM

An AIM and a MET book nearby could be of use.

Rhinoflyer & Vince,

New guy here . . . got a call from HR today; need to take the technical test within 3 days. Could you forward the e-mail to me?

Waldo11 09-10-2010 04:47 AM

Wx book. Quite a few wx questions.

744driver 09-10-2010 08:39 AM

Especially weather charts, or so I have heard.

IfitsTuesday 09-10-2010 10:45 AM

The Gleim WX book is very useful. Instead of memorizing things, spend time figuring out where info is in different materials. Surround yourself with books and be able to lay your hands on whatever little tidbits of info you need. Seemed to be a good use of very limited study time.

Just curious... how long after submitting a resume has it been taking guys to get called for the phone interview?

Also, does it help to resubmit your resume every couple months? It sucks not getting a confirmation that it was received, because it makes me wonder whether or not it was actually received.

Finally, are ANY regional jet guys getting called.

Thanks for the info.

HercDriver130 09-11-2010 01:24 PM

hum...in some instances..mine... i was called hours after submitting.... some have been months.... I wouldnt read anything in to that as I was not selected after the interview. Seems at least to have been hit and miss to get a call.

DeadBeat 09-11-2010 04:23 PM

Does anybody have the latest info an ATLAS hiring for the rest of 2010? Heard there might be a class the end of October, 10 or 11 guys are in the pool, so I,ve heard.

You nailed it, seems like I did first two steps passed the Test, yet I haven't received a call (two weeks now)...yet others around my time did....so its all a guessing game.

AIRLIFTR 09-12-2010 01:22 PM

They seem to be taking a break till Jan for the classes, so interviews may slow in the meantime as well. I think if you have been called and have taken the test, you're in good shape.

DeadBeat 09-13-2010 05:27 AM

Does anybody know how long "in the pool" is good for? It might be as much as 5 or 6 months from interview untill class. I know some places you drop out after 1 year some 6 months, hows ATLAS?

cargowannabe 09-13-2010 06:27 AM

I was in pool from June '08 until Dec '09 and had to re-interview in July of this year and I was told the pool was good for a year.

DeadBeat 09-13-2010 06:41 AM

Thanks for the info. I was told just the other day from a good source that classes will start up again in Jan. Hiring all of 2010. But no word on when in Jan.

cargowannabe 09-13-2010 08:00 AM

Hi I was told 1 more class this year first or second week of Oct. Of course this is just rumor.

thurberm 09-13-2010 07:38 PM

PM from anyone for a HR name to address cover letter to?

Thanks in advance...

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Subsidiary Wins Second Aircraft Agreement with Panalpina Air & Ocean Extending Long-term Relationship
Atlas Air to provide ACMI service for a Boeing 747-400 Freighter, expanding Panalpina's Own Controlled Air Network

Multi-year contract provides Panalpina with even more flexibility in scheduling and routing

Wednesday, September 15, 2010 -- Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (AAWW) (Nasdaq: AAWW), a leading global provider of air cargo assets and outsourced aircraft operating solutions, today confirmed an agreement to place a second Boeing 747-400 freighter with Panalpina Air & Ocean Ltd.

The multi-year agreement, under which Atlas Air will provide ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) services to Panalpina, was announced on the 20th anniversary of Panalpina's “Dixie Jet” freighter service connecting Huntsville, Ala., with Europe, which is also operated by a B747-400 Freighter leased from Atlas Air.

The second aircraft, to be based at Panalpina's European hub in Luxembourg, will operate services from Asia and Africa to Europe; Europe to Africa, the Middle East and Asia; and from Asia to the United States. It is set to begin operating in early October.

Panalpina and Atlas Air have a successful track record of working together for almost two decades. “On a day where we celebrate a long-standing relationship with one of the world's leading suppliers of freight forwarding and logistics services, it's only fitting that we confirm a further commitment to serve Panalpina and its customers with state-of-the-art, high-quality capacity and time-definite service,” said William J. In Luxembourg, Panalpina's Own Controlled Air Network serves key customers in industries that include energy, high tech, health care and automotive.

One of the major financial institutions reported yesterday that 1st 747-8 (and 787) delivery will be pushed back, probably until July. Last I heard, it was the end of this year, pushed back to 1st 1/4 2011. :-(

DeadBeat 09-16-2010 03:35 PM

Does anybody know if this new contract will speed up the hiring? Or are things still on hold till next year?

skyguy 09-16-2010 03:55 PM

I had a quick question regarding Atlas Air... When on a DH do you get first class?

Twin Wasp 09-16-2010 04:25 PM

Well, the contract negotications go to arbitration next month so maybe the middle of next year we'll have something.

International DH is business or better, domestic it's coach.

JerrySpringer 09-16-2010 04:59 PM

Atlas will be at the Aviation Career Expo in LAS in October.

Perhaps a good way to get some face time with the HR folks.

Caution...personal opinion follows!!

Hiring is not likely to be affected since we are likely to use one of the airplanes that are already in our fleet (and is staffed) when Panalpina accepts the second airplane in October.

However, once (if) we get the several -400F's back from GSS/BA, we are then likely to hire for them (and more if other airplanes are forthcoming, like the remaining 9+ B747-8F's).

Good thing the "IF" is there as I see the return of those three 400's replacing classics that are still on the property. Although I'm not up to speed on Aircraft/Crew ratios, I would think that hiring would be minimal for those aircraft returning to the property.

However, as we all know they are continuously looking for business so who knows!

744driver 09-17-2010 08:24 AM

Polar,
there is always the "if" when it comes to AAWW...or the airline industry in general!!

I sent in my resume just over 2 months ago and I'm going to resend it on Monday. Can someone please PM me a name and title of a person to address a cover letter to? Thanks.

Chief Pilot is always safe bet.

Waldo11 09-20-2010 01:56 AM

Latest rumor is the Oct class is on again. Unsure of the date, but to be filled with poolies and interviewees from last week of Sept.

DeadBeat 09-20-2010 06:01 AM

How long ago did you hear this?? I'm currently in the pool, but haven't heard a thing.

PM me-cargo

744driver 09-20-2010 07:10 AM

I don't think he can PM you since he only has 5 posts...I could be wrong.

But, I did hear from a guy in class now. He said the same things that you wrote about the possibility of an Oct or Nov class. And I heard from him only yesterday.
