Yep, it does that on occasion. From time to time the thread drifts into Flightinfo.com territory but thus far it seems to find its way back to important things fairly soon.

Airlines want the best people they can hire - regardless of flying history. Thinking one is better than the other is toxic and will quickly lower you to the bottom of a highly competitive pilot pool. Attitude is everything....not hours...not briefings. Let's keep the thread to people helping people - that's what it's all about.

How much attrition does Atlas get to due to United and other airline hiring?

At the moment it doesn't seem to be a big factor. There have been a few but it's probably because the hiring hasn't ramped up to full volume yet. Undoubtedly the numbers will increase some in the future. Reasons? Probably twofold. Financial reasons most likely predominate but also there are some who in spite of info available here on this thread didn't really understand the ACMI world and what that entails as far as schedule flexibility and being light on your feet about where you thought you were headed this week (or this afternoon!).

Historical average is 15/year. We also have @ 40 retirements/year. Lots of rumors/ innuendo that attrition will spike this year, but no hard data yet.

Just flew with a reliable source who said the company has gotten over 100 PRIA requests. I would expect a fair amount of attrition once major hiring actually ramps up.

Would Atlas hire someone intrigued by ACMI but without jet or international time?

Yes...the mins include 500 TURBINE TOTAL...no jet, no PIC required.

Heard of a relatively new hire with class dates at AA, UAL and DAL...trying to decide. That is one of the reason that the pilot shortage is worse than it appears. Guys talk about how many apps at various places...they are all the same pilots. When the guy above choices, lets say, DAL, then he will call UAL and AA and be a no show for both. A guy getting hired at a career-type job, may take 10 or more resumes out of the system.

Atlas has a number of guys getting recalled, or eligible for recall at AA and UAL. They also have guys in various pools, and pilots applying elsewhere. Atlas lowered their mins recently...the 3rd time in the last 4 years.
