Atlas Air Hiring

These kids will never know what it was like to fly fabric covered, open cockpit, radial engine contraptions with PROPELLORS! Heck, We used to take off every night overweight ... with snow up to here ... uphill ... one turning and one burning ... climbing out onto the wing to kick the ice off in the storm ... with the plane flat on its back ... and ... er ... flack so thick you could get out and walk on it ... cough ... where's my geritol ... ?

1) Welcome to the 5 FNGs in Indoc.
2) I remember hunkered down in the old leaky DC-3s listening to airway markers for "tone", hoping to see smudge pots through cracks in the clouds on the old mail run. I couldn't believe how soft so many guys got with the advent of pressurization and the ability to use one of those directional radios. How much skill does it take to fly? I mean the needle points to the station for chrissakes.

I know you guys have lots of experience and I love hearing the stories from the good ole' days from all the skippers I fly with, even FO's. It pains me that I wasn't around to fly commercially back then but I try to learn and absorb everything I can from every guy/gal I fly with that did. Might I add, it truly has been an amazing bunch to fly with.
It's just that there wasn't a whole lot of opportunity for me to fly those types. Don't hold it against me. :-) Although, a couple years ago I tried applying for an outfit flying DC-3's and didn't get the time of day. :-/
With that said, I do have a notable amount of time in fabric, prop, open cockpit, tail dragger, old clunky airplanes too. Airplanes older then every single Atlas pilot. Not Convair's but hey its fits the criteria. lol

Welcome on board to the April 30th class...don't worry, even our oldest airplanes (now that the Classics are gone!!) have a magenta line for you to follow (most of the time, unless ATC is holding your hands and giving you headings).

Wish I knew, also swimming. I read earlier that its aprox 40-50. Also mixed posts anywhere from no more classes this year to new hire classes in Jun. Guess we will see. Tough to plan for but I do believe it will be worth it.

Company announced a new multi-year ACMI contract with Etihad airways and a profitable first quarter so maybe this will help some more get out of the pool. Then again, maybe it's already been planned as nothing was said if this was an additional 747-400 OR if it's going to be one of those that is replaced with a -8. Either way more flying is always good news.

Here's another to the first quarter financial report press release. Good news as well.

Hello All! I hope each of you at Atlas are doing well and enjoying the job.
In speaking to several friends from different airlines and school, everyone seems to count their blessings that they are working at Atlas. That's great to hear. I'm currently working overseas on a 777 contract attempting to get on board as well sometime in the relative near future. I just recently subscribed to the forum website and have been spending most of my time reading the 300+ pages of information here. I'd like to ask a few questions if I may.
With the current hiring window being closed, is there any benefit to trying to get my resume in through current Atlas friends? Somebody had mentioned a while ago in this thread that 767 experience goes a long way right now. I do have the type. Is it worthwhile to attempt or is that just going to agitate the HR Department. Or should I just wait until the window does eventually open and go from there with internal recommendations?
Is there any projection on when the hiring window may open? I've been checking it twice a day to make sure I don't miss the boat.
Does the company weigh AMC experience heavily? After being overseas, I have truly learned that AMC/Supplemental aviation is what I really want to do.
Is there advantages to having multiple LOR's internally?
Might there be any "latest and greatest" information on the phone interview? Seeing that it is the first step, it's seems productive to work on that first...
Any suggestions?
I would really appreciate any information possible. After reading two thirds of this thread so far, it seems like there are some good advices and people to share them!
Thank you for your considerations in my post?
All the Best!
