Good post MICRO!! Too many people focusing only on STV. Lots of problems with this LOA and STV is only one!

I have heard a lot of people griping on this thing in the crew lounge, but there are still an incredible number of people who think it won't affect them....

"I'm not bidding it anyway..."
"It's an airbus base, right?......"
"It is good for junior guys, isn't it?....."
"The guys in Subic will just move to HK won't they?..." my favorite!
"They won't need to use STV..."

Education is the key, and it won't come from the Union or the Company!

Micro,

Your points are valid--there does seem to be some shortfalls. However, the fact is if STV's are removed the only guys over there will be the ones that bid it. I agree--doesn't sound like a good deal for a family guy--but at least you'll have the choice to bid it or not bid it. I'm sure the guys in pools are screaming "vote it down!" so there might be a vacancy or two to till.

However--my objection is that as the LOA is written now, the guy who would NEVER consider bidding it--no matter what the benefits--could get sent against his or her will. That's a pretty huge leap from our current CBA.

However--anytime you find yourself on the outside of the company's position and the outside of the union's position--its a very uncomfortable position to be in. How did we get from so unified last year to this?

Default Be careful what you post here

Albie,

It'll be interesting to see if your ACP "friend" really does post here. I would be willing to bet he could lose his cushy management job for doing that (and not having the many company lawyers sanitize his "thoughts" first).

As far as posting anonymously goes ... I have a good friend, that when he was called in by the SCP to be counseled about a poor decision he had made, that many of his postings from public bulletin boards like this one WERE IN HIS COMPANY PERSONNEL JACKET!. So ... I'd prefer to remain anonymous for that reason, but I always try to be careful about what I say just in case I have to defend it to management at a later date!

Who would have guessed it's someone’s job to copy this stuff and file it in pilot's personnel files? Are you paranoid if they really are out to get you?

Regards,

Mayday Mark (not my real name).

Seriously...I hope that anything I've posted on my "thoughts" on some of the various issues has been limited to the issues and not personal. I dig my job, and enjoy (almost all) of the folks I work with. FWIW...last week I flew with a 59 and change captain. Great guy--and we had a nice trip. If the law changes, flying with guys like him will soften the sting of the age 60 change. Doesn't mean I want the change--doesn't mean I support how it happened--but that also doesn't mean I cannot enjoy a beer with the guys on the line. Hope you feel the same way...

Agreed, the chance of being forced over there against your will is unacceptable!! I don't really worry about being outside the companies position but I'm pi$$ed that I have to be against my unions position. We got to this ununified state because the MEC is continually making decisions that are not in line with what this membership wants. Now we're going to have town meetings so that they can continue to "explain" decisions well gone by. I'm sorry but I don't believe this MEC will EVER regain the unity we once had without them being removed. They have become too arrogant and too self serving.

I flew with a 59.5 Capt for a month who was a great person, but I can tell you it's definitely time for retirement. Fortunately, he's ready to hang it up in a couple of months. Every person is different; it may be time to retire at 57 or 63 or ? depending on how you still hack the program. Personally, I'm looking at 58 for me, but need to see how things flush out (or down).

I'm with Jolly, too.

It would sure be nice to have these town meetings before we get to this point on an issue. A town meeting prior to union ratification of this LOA, might have given the union an idea of where we stand on it. Maybe then, they would think twice about bringing a substandard LOA to us and having to try to sell it like a kirby vacuum cleaner, after the fact.

Although it doesn't seem to get used much. ALPA has a weboard with a FDX section. If you don't care your name being used, maybe we should start arguing these points there also. Step up to the plate you wimps ( not calling any names! ).
