There are more FEs becoming front seaters than there are FO's becoming FEs. I'm sorry if you're one of those guys--it sucks. But we are not shrinking, just rearranging so the old guys can get their pay increased to pay for their multiple ex-wives.

It's amazing to see the old farts around the training center gleefully bashing the automation of the -400. First off, the -400 is not even that automated compared to the newer planes out there (777, A-330 etc.) They also pretend to not even know the devastation they are causing to a lot of families. There are plenty of newhires that moved to ANC that are now faced with relocating again to SDF on 2d year FE pay. If a guy is turning 60 and wants to keep flying I think he should do so with no regrets. However, the over 60 guys returning to the front seat and bumping the junior capts back should be ashamed of themselves. It's just another example of the baby boomer generation failing miserably in comparison to their parent's generation.

Agree completely! Except if we ever have furloughs - then both guys turning 60 who're staying and those over 60 coming back to the front seat should be ashamed of themselves. However don't worry - the baby boomer generation invented the "me me me - attitude"... No shame will ever be involved...

Btw., what happens on Dec 13th 2012???

Hey! I resemble that remark! So let me ask you this...If the "Greatest Generation" was (is?) so great, how did they wind up raising kids that turned out to be such a bunch of no-gooders? Were they great people, and just lousy parents? Were we spoiled by society? Was it Nixon's fault? Or are we just childhood "arrested development" cases?

Gotta say, though, I'm at the tail end of the boomer cycle, after me come the Xer's. Whew! There's a bunch of whiners! I mean winners!

It's because we are now stuck with the mindset that every kid needs to "feel good" about themselves. Finish last place in soccer, that's OK, you get a trophy too. A couple of football teams keep winning state titles, OK, let's just not play them and put them in another division. This country is becoming pathetic in the way we treat kids. We have lost our competitive edge in the world because failing a kid in school or not kissing his or her ass because they didn't win. Being good at something should count for, well, something. Trying hard is just not always good enough. The "greatest generation" I believe was so great was because they actually gave up a lot in order for this country to survive. I should know. I grew up in the 70's and have not really had to sacrifice much of anything.

So, I think the guys coming back to the front seat A) either have no life
B) need the money, C) want the money D) need and want the money.
And if you think they care or lose sleep over what anyone says, or how they are screwing the junior folks, then think again.

I agree with everything in the first paragraph. The second one I don't know about because I'm not there, so I take your word for it.

I will even add that some just want to keep working. I guess they still enjoy it. I know of at least one guy going back to the front seat that still enjoys going to work and being part of a crew.

What were they bashing? Not understanding it or not knowing how to use it??

I've already watched several people not understand the automation, burn a lot more gas than needed, if they just knew what they were looking at....

Good times ahead
