It would be nice to see an additional 30+ 767's in the short/mid-term (beyond those already announced) as well as another 15-20+ heavy lifters. The lack of short term additional -400's may give some credence to the Transmile MD rumor which seems to have gone into recession. Or maybe DHL will be handling all of our international lift from now on.
As much as i hate to say it but your last comment about dhl may not be all wrong.

He addressed the Transmile planes with a defnite "no". He did say that we had looked at them though. He looked over at the VP Finance who shook his head confirming what Lekites had said. You mention 30+ 767's and I think that is what he was getting at as well. They could be Airbuses but something in that group would be needed. I definitely got a vibe though that things are always subject to change. I don't think that they have the DHL thing figured out yet and what they would like to do vs. what they will have to do may be two different things. In other words, we may see more MD-11's yet, even though he says he doesn't want that. Events may overcome his desires.

As I recall from the last definite "no" I heard from him, that means they'll be on the property in a few weeks....

Oh...so 30 more 767-class in addition to the already announced...cool. The heavy lift deficit is more troublesome unless they are going to do something really silly and wait 8-10 years to get in the 777 line while grabbing up the remaining MD11's out there in the interim. The seniority list needs a shot in the arm sooner than that, especially with the geezerama in full swing. One thing is for sure...if DHL goes through they'll under-react and if it falls through they'll over-react.

In fairness, wasn't that Barr? It's been a few weeks since he said that so your timeline is off a bit if nothing else

30 more, but don't forget to subtract the DC8 numbers as they get put out to pasture . Now again, take it for what it is worth, but he was pretty adamant about no 777's. It was described as an either or with the -400 and they went to the -400 instead as they didn't like the price of the 777 (240 mil).

As for the under reaction, he laughed about that saying that was just the way that they operate, i.e. we got routes and announced China before they had the planes for it, and now were doing this without knowing exactly where there metal was going to come from. These guys aren't stupid, they just see the world and their role in it in a different way than you and I. After all these years, I have given up trying to figure them out and I just smile when the check goes ito my account every other monday. I guess a little seniority buys you that luxury

I think you are accurate here, "One thing is for sure...if DHL goes through they'll under-react and if it falls through they'll over-react"

Your seniority doesn't buy everything...MY check is in my account the preceding Saturday

If I had to bet I'd say they'll get more MD11's (despite their problems with reliability-try fixing things and having parts) and dig up more -400's for conversion, as if they are choking on the 777 price tag, the Ocho will make them do a Karen Carpenter.

And I hope they have the brains to get 767's instead of more Yugos.
