I've been watching open time for the Mighty Dog right seat in MEM.

On the 5th, there were 8 trips. Now there are 10. What are the new ones - extra segments or people calling in sick?

Either way, it's gonna be a fiasco if nobody drafts them. Can you imagine - cancelling an extra segment for lack of crew!

I love the optimism but I will bet you they will find some *****s out there. Spread the word to those who still play dumb, that there is no draft/volunteer. I still run into guys that act like they have not gotten the word. BS but reaffirm it to them.

They're most likely extra pairings. Sick doesn't show up in open time.

Or they could be drops of some sort, i.e. military, training, emergency.

Default massive carryover

Is anybody checking out the massive carryover and no min day protection that many guys are flying in the MD11? Several guys are working 140 hrs or more for July. Many of these people keep their calendar closed but when the VTO's are published you can look at those and see the problem. If you have any friends doing this let them know this is just as bad as draft if not worse.

MIN DAY PROTECT!

Another good reason to work on a CAP/BANK system in the next contract. We need to protect these poor souls from themselves. I have one new hire classmate that has been doing this in the MD11 for years... and it shows ! It is worse than draft, at least make the company pay extra for killing yourself faster than we already are.

Come on now guys, we keep changing the rules! We really appear to be desperate here. If this doesn't scare them, let's try this. Oh, that didn't work, lets try this. It sure would be easier to come up with a game plan, not just a bunch of disconnected rules. Oh yeah, we can't. That would be illegal.

Are you related to Hillary? We aren't smart enough to make decisions for ourselves? If you don't want to bid carry over, don't. Usually goes pretty senior anyway. I am not condoning carry over, or draft, or volunteer. I am just saying that there are a lot of guys who have been on the property a whole lot longer than you and me and they have become accustomed to being able to fly extra when they need it. Again, not condoning it. And the amazing thing about it is that the guys that have a real beef with it usually use the old excuse that those folks are keeping you from upgrading. Problem is that it is usually the 15 year F/O who says it. With 4 year Captains, that argument is pretty lame.

It was meant to be funny, sort of, a guy needing a week of carryover for the occasional pay bump is not what we are talking about here. The guys we are talking about is the chronic users of this system. We strive for better duty rigs/times to battle fatigue and help raise straight pay and in one corner we have guys able to work 25 days a month. I see guys doing 15+ crossings in a month, get real, is this safe ? Legal does not equal safe. The guys doing this as F/O's are the same ones who usaully say they can't afford to upgrade because they loose the ability to bid carryover and will make less as a Captain. BTW, the Hillary comment HURT ! haha
