You have a valid point however big brown is on a faster pace to shrink us. Name an airline that shrunk their staffing by almost 17% in last 6 years??

Yes, but to be fair a large portion of that we're the PFEs. We've shrunk due to modernizing the fleet and replacing 3 man with 2 man planes.

Pretty much all of the legacy airlines where in some sort of shrink mode prior to the big 3 mega mergers.....with the exception of possibly Delta.

And:

"Its like this, NO ONE here knows when/if hiring will continue. No one that can or will post anything to an internet forum.

Another thing about UPS, every peak that I have been through, there ALWAYS seems to be some upbeat rumors about hiring, aircraft acquisitions or even during the dark days ..., furlough recalls ... for whatever reason it has been part of the operation like a routine event.

I know its not very insightful, or what you wanted to hear ... its just the reality of the current environment."

So, you guys are saying that in effort to provide a false sense of hope and optimism for UPS line pilots to get through another peak / vote for less than ideal contract items, UPS HR/management is jerking around a large group of people who, as of yet, have nothing to do with UPS? Mgmt would do this knowing that each interviewee has probably spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to prepare themselves, travel to/from the interview, taking time off work, etc., while at the same time diverting their own resources just to produce an illusion which has a potential to backfire? I may be just an overly optimistic poolie, but wouldn't the more simple explanation suggest they are, in fact, preparing to hire? FWIW, I was told (durning interview) to expect, "possible classes starting early 2015."

It's a carrot.

"Don't worry, you're in the pool. UPS will hire you, just sit back and wait for it. The phone will ring any day."

I'm sure they told the same thing to the poolies from 04-07 hoping they would have a ready supply of bodies who turned down other jobs to wait. What they didn't tell them was the pool is actually a toilet bowl. Thus the flush that wiped out the last group of poolies.

Doubtful......They are not going to interview a group of people without the intention of hiring. Unless there is a major plan shift, these guys should be called as classes are formed. No conspiracy here.

IMO...also doubtful guys would pass on a class elsewhere because they were merely in the pool at UPS.......if so, not a very smart career decision.

Good luck to those in the pool.....hopeful that calls go out sometime soon.

It always cracks me up when folks around here say "Oh, its just another peak rumor....yada yada"
Does anyone seriously change their work ethic based on what the rumor du jour is?, good or bad?.
Seriously, come to work, fly the contract, collect the pay check and enjoy your time off. Repeat.

While I hope UPS does hire, a pool and hiring are not interdependent. This last round of hiring was off the street and not from a pool. The pool is not FIFO as proven by those left swimming last time. You could be in the pool and never be called even if UPS hires.

Finally, a pool costs UPS basically nothing. They do not pay for transportation or hotel for the interview. If something happens, ie part 117, and UPS needs bodies, they have a supply. If everything stays status quo, well, they have people waiting(to a point) if needed. The pool only represents a contingency plan and the possibility of new classes, nothing more.

Yes, I am channeling my inner Sideshow of expectation zero.

They have almost always had some sort of pool when they are in hire mode. They haven't had one when they are not. There was no pool from 07 till just recently when they started to hire again. Alas....now a pool! Yes very cheap to have a pool. I don't think it's a contingency plan tho. I believe they plan on hiring these guys at some point hopefully next year. IMO

Blender.......your next post will make 1000....make it good!!

Thumbs up UPS poolies :-)

To those who just interviewed and were hired into the pool, congrats!!! We all hope to see you in training very, very soon!

Word of advice - stay off message boards! It won't do you any good except give you ulcers. You'll simply worry about what you've just gotten into based on the pessimism so freely shared by some of our brothers and sisters.

The vast majority of us enjoy this job - and that's all it is - a job, a fairly well paying job thanks to the IPA.
The message boards however are dominated by some very jaded doomsday'ers and members of the 'end-is-near' cult.

Most of them have legit gripes BUT their complaints won't help you whatsoever at this point.

So keep doing what you've been doing - enjoy your life, your family, your friends and hopefully we'll be buying you all beers and/or drinks of your choice before you know it.

Congrats again!!!
