FDX TA Approved

Here's a nice little decrease in your take home, by increasing your taxes paid!!
"8.C.5.b. A pilot shall designate on his online expense report any claim for deviation travel expenses incurred while commuting to or from his base. The amount of such claim that is allowed/reimbursed shall be included in the pilot's income as taxable compensation and all applicable taxes will be withheld."

Anyone read section 29 yet? Rumor had it that current non-members would be exempt from maintance fees, but I can't see that in the section anywere, I've read it and the letter from ALPA to FDX 4 times! So, it appears to me, if a non-member doesn't go on dues check-off and/or subsequently doesn't pony up (there's a laid out time frame) then they can be fired! Wow!

MD11Fr8Dog,
I believe you are correct - it's contained in a follow up letter at the end of the TA's.
Here:
A. Applicability of Union Security
In addition to the limitations found in Section 29.A.2., Section 29 will not apply to
pilots who had a date of hire prior to August 26, 2006, and who were, on that date, not
members of the Association. All pilots initially employed by the Company on or after
August 26, 2006, are obligated to comply with the union security obligations of the
amended collective bargaining agreement.
At least this is a step in the right direction since there are 3 non members who are in Block 8!!
I propose we get to pocket whatever's left in your monthly deviation bank! Yeah, I'm on my 3rd Rum & Coke tonight.....and I just got back from LRD too so give me some latitude here
Or simply dodge the IRS taxman.....................

The way I read that is you only report the expense if you use deviation monies to commute to your base. In other words, say a commuter that lives in OAK and has only OAK double DH's uses his bank money to come to Memphis for a sim which isn't within the three day timeframe of a DH trip.
It doesn't make it a good thing, but I don't think it is going to have a far reaching effect as it would if it applied to all non-commuter deviations.

I'll have plenty of time to read up on the TA!
