ATI will ultimately get this flying while Southern only made it harder on themselves for their next contract negotiation.
My observation only of course.

I don't see any one carrier getting all of the 737 flying for DHL. It just isn't how DHL operates. Why would they give all the 737 domestic flying to one carrier and allow them to have that kind of leverage come next negotiations. They destroyed Astar for this very reason and will never go back.. Whoever gets the 737's will only be temporary before another carrier steps in and gets the next round. That is where Southern thought they would win. Come in with a lowball offer and get the planes and come next contract, big pay raises and improvements. Sorry, but it isn't gonna happen. It only adds to the destruction of our industry. Why does your union reps keep pushing for this??????$$$

Not sure why everyone keeps jamming on Southern saying they are the low ball bidders here
I would say it's because they voted on and actually passed an LOA to fly at these pathetic rates. They gave up so much more than just home basing.

ATI went for round two when the first LOA was not a good thing for ATI. In doing so, we kept our Home Based Airline intact along with other improvments in pay, vacation and language for this 737 operation in CVG. And with Section Six CBA openners coming in Nov, we will have our plate full.
14% lower?? Can't throw a grenade out like that without something to back it up. Site your source please.

In short as to why and basically the SACG voted for the LOA:
Union leadership with an agenda that is something other than the welfare of it's members.
Propaganda perpetuated by the Union leadership and a number of individuals.
Fear and stupidity - not truly understanding their adversary, nor the ramifications of their actions.
A large percentage of people on furlough that could still vote, that erroneously perceived that the LOA would still keep them employed (it won't - simple math).
A block of voters located in the CVG area that could care less about home basing and just want to scr*w the senior people out of what they originally signed on for.
Clueless Sheep - slowly and mindlessly chewing their cud, being led around by the Shepard's Crook with the sheep dog nipping at their feet.
Sorry about this, but really!

You pretty much hit it on the head!
But don't forget the threat of getting rid of the 747-400s and the 737s as a back up aircraft to shift over to incase the -400s are parked.
Funny thing is our MEC pushed this LOA so hard, and sold it to the members like a used car salesman with a great pitch and the same day the results were revealed his resignation was also revealed without prior notice, or any advance notice.
We have a large percentage of guys that will accept whatever comes our way because they're too old to go anywhere else; on the opposite spectrum, we have guys that are very young and will accept the LOA because they view SAI as a stepping stone and an opportunity to get multi-turbine PIC time for that dream job.
Anyway you slice it, Southern has no future for improvement; it's just getting worse one LOA at a time and bringing the entire industry down with it.
Sad but true.
