Unless you've been flying analog instruments for 30 years. In cases like that, a glass cockpit is a big change, even unmanageable for some. It's all a matter of perspective. To me, going back to round dials would feel a bit painful...

When one door closes another one opens....be ready. With respect, if you were hanging your hat on being a C-130 AC that flew into combat zones, the interviewers may have tried to correlate how you would fit into UPS freighters flying into non-combat environments (except maybe Detroit).

Best of Luck,

I'm curious as to who made this statement? Maybe I didn't notice it on this thread? At any rate, I agree with you that it's idiotic.

Bottom line is...I got hired at Delta (in 2000), and at UPS (in 2007) with a majority of my PIC time in a C-130. Nobody had a problem with it then, and I'm sure that nobody at UPS has a problem with it now.

All of my "pure" jet time (B727, 757/767, MD88/90, 747-400) in the Part 121 world has been as a FO. I didn't have any problems transitioning to these aircraft, and I'm sure the same would hold true for most any Herk driver out there.

It depends on who you get. When I did my initial checkride, the FQS asked about my previous airframe. I told him it was a TP and he about went through the roof. He said we couldn't do the checkride because I didn't have he proper high altitude training. I tried to educate him a little but he would hear none of it. He started to make a call and I told him it was okay because I also had 1000+ in a jet. Didn't matter, he still made a couple calls until he was assured everything was okay. Found out later he was a ground instructor with a PPL who made his way into flight ops.

Oh please...do tell. PM if you like.

I'd venture to say that this clown was the exception, and not the rule...even at the Brown Stain.

especially when it's an AH-1W bombing around at 2,000 AGL in IMC with gusts and shear. it's manageable but quite the handful. I agree wholeheartedly that glass is easier and can facilitate a more proficient scan.
