I would think long and hard about coming to work at Omni. If you can, try to talk to an Omni pilot and get an idea of how life on the road is and managements "style" of dealing with stuff.

I like it here. I was at XJT previously, and this is a step up IMO.

Having come from there, I can say that Omni's much better, particularly if you live near ATL. I have yet to meet a single former RJ pilot that regrets having made the move. That said, QOL/time at home considerations should be taken very seriously before thinking about the ACMI world.

Everyone that would like to work at Omni should do one thing; go to the APC website and look at the pay calculator. That is what you will make before taxes and not a penny more. You will be gone 18 days every month to earn that. You will probably fly 20-50 hours a month depending on which fleet you are on. You will never break guarantee. Omni will go out of their way to make sure that you don't. You will sit in hotel rooms for multiple days in different countries until your 18 days are up with nothing to show for it. There is no daily credit.

If you do go to Omni, begin training, decide that Omni is not for you, or have a personal event in your life that you must tend to, then your withdrawl from training will be counted as a failure on your record.

These are just a few of the minor problems that exist at Omni. Be very careful on pulling the trigger on Omni.

Agreed. I have had a good time at Omni. It is what you make of it. If you intend on having a family while at Omni, good luck, but you know that prior to taking the position.

If you would like to work some OT, it is a good way to make money at Omni.

And that's the key to it.

Everything everyone said above is true, so it depends on the individual to put it in perspective. When I first got hired here, I loved it for about 3 months. Great airplane, flying to all these countries I'd never been to. Then, it wore off and I started hating life. After a few months of being a complete miserable bastard at work, I decided that I had two choices: I could continue to spread negativity to my coworkers and to myself, or I could roll with the punches and actively work on keeping a positive attitude. No matter what anyone says, a positive attitude doesn't just appear; it's something that must be actively worked on.

Yes, Omni does stuff from time to time that annoys the crap out of me. Yes, I can whine with the best of them. At the end of the day though, I shrug it off and go to work. They laid it all out before I got hired, and I still showed up. Heck, that was even pre-contract when we all made $36,000/year and sat 24/6 short-call reserve. This CBA has a lot of holes, but at least those things are improved.

FWIW, I haven't been out more than 16 days in a month all year. Then again, I can usually bid to maximize my time at home.
