I heard that last week Jeff Crippen and Rob Coretz took out a 777 recurrent class to lunch and told everyone there that the airline was right where they wanted it on a staffing level and fleet size but they will continue to look for more planes and hire. Fast forward to yesterday and we get a letter from Crippen saying how business is slow and a few hours later we get the furlough and displacement letter from the CPO. It's comforting to know that you can have the President of the company look his employees in the face and lie to them.
Really sucks for the new hires in class because they are not considered employees yet so the company may not give them unemployment. How can they sleep at night knowing they were overstaffed and still let people quit their jobs at other airlines to come to Omni knowing they wanted to furlough.

Sorry to hear this for you guys. Same exact same thing happened at Southern. Same thing also happened at Kalitta last year (though the guys weren't in class yet, they were a week away and received phone calls saying "Go back to your previous employer if possible").
Yay ACMI carriers, always classy. But we pilots better act professional........

I am...or was a poolee, so I guess I just got flushed. No word from the company...wonder if I'll ever hear anything? Sad thing is, I passed on a couple opportunities while in the pool because I wanted to give Omni a go and not short-change any other employer in the interim. Guess I'm still numb from the whole OH deal...time to move on once again :/

You guys need to do some self policing with volunteer flying. There shouldn't be any reason for the company to need people to fly on days off.
If you are one of those that flies on your off days voluntarily while stepping on the necks of your soon to be furloughed brethren, shame on you.

Unfortunately, there were many takers of open time when many of us hit the street at another airline in 2008. Everyone has ideals until the bills come due, it seems...
