How do they decide who gets what aircraft? Also, what are the QOL differences between the fleets? (time on the road, hours flown, number of legs, etc)

Does OMNI look at pilots with 15,000+ international experience as new hirers

TallFlyer: Omni picks people for classes based upon needs at the time of hiring. They will likely tell you which aircraft when they offer you a class date. Do not defer for another aircraft, as it could be months before another class. QOL is similar, however the 767 goes to more destinations. The 777 pilots more often run into landing currency issues due to heavy crewing and longer legs, but for the most part they do similar things. I believe they are both Polar qualified now.

Captjns: Yes, they would probably love your experience, however you can do better if you have that kind of time...

there was a time when pilots with that experience would be hired into the left seat directly if you had that time on the type aircraft but not now -

One of the benefits of a contract, the good ole boy system doesn't always work in favor of those who suck up to Tulsa. Win, lose or draw if you seniority can hold captain you can bid it, whether the company likes it or not.

If they send 777 guys to the box for landing currency does it become a PC or some other kind of jeopardy event or is it just three bounces and you're done?

Also, they hire single pilot freight guys? Like Metro or 1900 pilots?

list of 120 or so gateway airports in the contract - chose one close to where you live - company gets you a ticket to and from your gateway airport - "home base"

Yes, the 777 guys compete for landings.

As I understand it, a sim to reset landing currency will follow one of two paths depending on whether currency has expired or not. It is in writing somewhere, but right now I lack the initiative to track it down. If is prior to expiration, only landings are required. If post expiration you will need to demonstrate a v1 cut with a single engine hand flown ILS (maybe to a missed approach) and an ILS to the lowest minimums for which you are trained. Someone please feel free to elaborate upon and/or correct this.

That being said, in either case if you go in unprepared thinking it is going to be a gimme, that will quickly become apparent, it will become a jeopardy event and your day will go downhill rapidly. It has happened.

And equally important is to make sure your check airman's QRH is up to date so when you quote him new limitations, he wont think you've come unprepared.
