One other thing not mentioned is that if you are coming here needing a full 1000 hrs to upgrade, you will likely be senior enough as a CA to completely bypass reserve, even though FO reserve even in EWR will probably be 4-6 months, longer in IAD.
Furthermore, I don't believe we have classes for FO's anytime soon as we are very fat with FO's and lean with CA's.
Probably not until early to mid 2020 is one likely to be able to start, unless they are coming in as a DEC.

And I'll back up your statement about reserve as a CA. I won't be ready to upgrade for another 6-8 months depending on how much flying I do, yet I already know that when I upgrade I'll go straight to a line. People sh!t on C5 all the time but I can't think of another airline where this is possible.

We are still hiring FOs last I heard, but it's 1 or 2 per class, as opposed to 14. The remainder of the classes are DECs.

So how does reserve work with C5? I've heard of airport reserve being a thing and it is what it is....but is that the only kind of reserve to be seen? Any insights on that whole phase of life before you hold a line?

I've been tracking the movement since the Dash was parked and I think its good news as someone who'll hopefully have RATP mins by summer 2020. I recognize it's basically a pipe dream at this point but this kind of thing keeps me forward-looking and motivated to keep grinding for it. Unless something goes wrong/changes for me I'd hope to be a homegrown captain with the company. And again, thank you for the tidbits!

I’ve seen a lot of senior reserves actually bid standby since they are more likely to be called to fly, plus you get paid per diem while sitting.
One thing that I’m gonna also ask is if I can sit seat support for the sim instead of reserve, especially if FO reserves continue to not be flown much. 1) It’d keep me sharp 2) I’d get per diem reliably and around the clock, and 3) It would likely make joining the training dept easier if that’s something I want to do later.

Airport is good for some people because it's an 8 hour shift on a fixed schedule (meaning it's commutable) and you get per diem. On short call you're on duty for 12 hours, no per diem but you can stay at home in your PJs if that's your thing provided you can get to the gate within the 2 hour callout window.

Took me just under 4 months get through training almost a year ago. Roughly 2 to 2.5 months if you include atp ctp to checkride date. Heard there is a massive delay after the checkride to IOE for FOs right now. Captains, upgrades or DEC, are obviously pushed ahead and quicker with captain shortages.
