Any idea how long the lax base will stay junior? I'm a little over 1100tt and cpz is one I'd like to get hired on. Also I'd like to be based in the west coast

Everyone who is on property now that would want it I am 99% sure has bid it. It will be purely new hires going there and the JR Capt base.

Took me about 2 months to hear back about an interview. I'm part 91 corporate, one other guy I interviewed with was a CFI but he didn't make it past the tests. They told me at the interview LAX was about fully crewed so people would start getting to choose a base instead of all going to lax.

On a side note for people going through class, anything to study prior to going up for the 1 day. I know training is geared for prior 121 so I want to get a jump start since I have no 121 time.

First off, welcome!

Don't worry about studying up in advance of orientation. The computer-based training you'll do at home cover what you need very well. Plus, you review it all when you get back, so it'll be drilled into you.

Knock out the CBTs and concentrate on getting your memory items (they're easy) and limitations down during your home study and you'll be in good shape.

You don't really need the flows for the first two weeks back in the schoolhouse but it's not a bad idea to keep chipping away at them.

Could any recent interviewees share what their schedule was for the interview? What day of the week did you fly in, what day was the interview, what day didn you fly home? The pilot I spoke with told me it would be a Tues-Thurs thing, but I wanted to try to find out what days exactly I need to ask off at work to schedule something. Thank you.

Flew in on Monday, interview started at 8am on Tuesday and by 2pm I was waiting on a cab after finishing the interview, paperwork, fingerprints, and drug test. My flight they booked me to get into MSP at 9:30pm and it was delayed so I didn't get there until 12am. They guy who booked it told me he was sorry that he tries to get everyone there by no later than 5-6pm so if its not I would ask if they could work some thing out because 5 hours of sleep before the interview wasn't good.

:) I felt exactly the same way.

Blast through the CBTs, take advantage of the travel bennies and take some time to yourself on that month at home. You can study limitations and memory items anywhere.

If I were going to do it over again, I'd hunker down in a cheap beach house somewhere quiet in Mexico for the month and study the limitations while I worked on my tan.

I wouldn't count on having a choice of base. You might, but DTW and MSP are shrinking and the vast majority of the company lives east of Denver. Thankfully flows are leaving at the same time but it is impossible to guess exactly how everything will sort out.

Right now there are three bases and a rumor of another base in the west. If another base opens DTW and MSP will shrink again.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone; I'm trying to set realistic expectations. At one point in my career I added up the number of airplanes that were promised during interviews vs. the number of airplanes that were actually on property at the time I left those companies. It added up to about negative 100 (-100) airplanes. I don't think recruiters intentionally lie, but the definitely paint the prettiest picture. For what its worth, Compass came through with every promise made during the interview.

Past performance is not indicative of future performance. Your milage may vary. Et cetera.

I disagree. First, there is no such thing as a "Captain type-rating." There is a Type rating (aka PIC type rating) and a SIC Type. When you take your checkride for your restricted-ATP/type, it will be the same checkride as someone who is taking an unrestricted ATP/type ride.

61.167 says nothing about ISSUING a type rating. It just says that you may not "act as pilot in command" under part 121. Once you meet the aeronautical or age requirement, you only have to provide proof to the FAA that you now have the minimums for an unrestricted certificate (through a 8710) and your restriction is removed without any further action.

Now it just comes down to the language in your contract which I highly doubt says "captain type rating." When I was talking to recruiters, they specifically said they have to issue a PIC type rating which you can do with an r-ATP. Technically, by your logic, the only people who qualify to be an FO at Compass are those with Part121 or 135 time because you can't be qualified as a Captain at any 121 operation unless you have 1000 SIC.
