Compass did great in New York. Of course that was shortly after TSA holdings acquired them. It would be interesting to see what would happen today if Compass was out there? I don't know about flying out of LAX. As I've never been based there. But is it really harder than New York? It seems to me by looking at others performance out of LAX that they are managing better?

Amen! Unlike Skywest mainline we all want to be properly paid pilots one day flying for the majors.

If you look at the flight ops average it's not flight ops. Or even lax: it's mx. Mx is wayyyyyyy outside of their goal and that's tanking the rest of our #s. Not to mention it is the root cause, which kills our star d0/a14 that then causes downline delays and problems when now a crew has a 30 min plane swap crew swap in lax that wasn't scheduled and flight ops takes a delay for not making the swap fast enough....

It wasn't judgment. Hence the question marks. Its an honest question as it seems some are using it as a crutch when other airlines are performing better in that market. If it's really that challenging your mainline partners will take that into consideration. If it's something else, well. I just can't believe it's any more difficult than the east coast market. Which was my original question?

The other airlines aren't 10% of LAX daily operations. Considering the size of Compass and the fact that we are in and out of LAX more than anyone else, I for one can attest to it being more difficult than when we had an East coast presence. HOPEFULLY, with moving to T2 and 3, the gate situation will be alleviated somewhat, however the MX situation is the other major contributing factor as mentioned above.

If my feeble memory is correct we were also given a performance goal adjustment to offset the hit to performance in LGA. We were not given the same relief in LAX.

We are responsible for 10% of all LAX arrivals and departures. That is a crazy number to operate with when we've had to deal with everything from LAX construction issues to weather and ever growing congestion of gate space. We simply cannot and will not see that much improvement in performance even if MX gets better, simply because close to 80% of our metrics as a regional derives from LAX ops. No other regional in the country has the LAX presence that we do and with just one airline at the main terminal. This gives us very little room to divide and delegate performance numbers across more bases or regions like most other regionals do.
LAX is like LA traffic, over time it's only getting worse. Hoping the moving to T2 and T3 will give us relief.

Just to point out it's not just the LAX airport itself that is the problem...It's our mainline partner and their operations. With one of our partners our performance is suck. The other's is actually pretty good. Admittedly, flying into LAX does have some unique issues not seen elsewhere, 9 times out of 10 when I blow an A14 it's Momma D's fault...not the city of Los Angeles.

I can't tell you how many times I have landed on-time or early and then blown A-14 while waiting for a gate!
