It’s a sad day when a Bill Maher makes more sense than the people who post on APC:

You see the existing lockdown and the damage that it's causing and want it to resolve, optimistic that things will improve going forward.

It's that 6 month vision is where we differ.

The NYC data provides such a wealth of information that it is totally discarded by the media. Can't keep the agenda going with this stuff...

Being conservative and not using the "unknown" column, and using the anti-body test iFR from earlier in the week of 0.56%, the risk of death for a healthy person of *any* age after being infected with COVID is 0.4 out of every 1,000. That is an extremely small number, much less than the risk of death for any age group for all the typical causes. That death rate is even less for the West Coast.

More importantly, the data show that COVID-19 is a disease of those already ill. Even *healthy* seniors have a very low death rate from COVID. The fact that society is destroying itself to protect those with preventable disease, is, quite frankly, criminal.

I'm all for protecting those at risk, but for the love of Christ you can not destroy, and I mean *DESTROY* those that are unaffected and otherwise healthy. That is the policy the government has taken, and it is totally unacceptable.

It is excruciating having to wait for experts to come out and tell us to just use common sence before the blindingly obvious is accepted.

Lock up the vulnerable, everyone else crack on.

I continue to remind myself that half the population is below average IQ.

Thank you for sharing that! Very interesting. I've been getting pointed in the direction of some Interesting info from the posts. Sometimes I admire Bill's ability to not give a hoot and say things that are unpopular, even with his own fan base. However when he says things like this, I just facepalm. https://www.newsweek.com/bill-maher-donald-trump-economy-recession-967984

A lot of what has been considered "good governance" may in hindsight be considered overkill. That is what this COVID thread is about I assume. When the president closed down air travel from China than Europe, this thing took on a life of its own. Blame the media if you want, but Trump has not, to my knowledge been lead by the media on anything he's done and I doubt if he started with stopping airlines enter from overseas. Fear of flying with people who might have Corona is what's going to keep pilots out of the cockpits. People choosing not to fly, not CNN, NYT or Mr Fauci will convince people either to fly or not. It will take a personal feeling that its safe to sit next to someone they don't know, can't move away from, and are with for 1 to 6 hours.

The US flu death rate is 0.1.
The current (26Apr2020) death rate for the Cvirus in the US is 0.32. So, as of today the Cvirus is 3.2x more deadly than the flu, in the US.

Even if that is true, we are looking at a 99.7% survival rate. Why do you support mass shelter in place vs targeted quarantine? I apologize if I put a bunch of words in your mouth....but thats my interpretation.
