in thevUS alone, three million people a year are diagnosed with a serious cancer. Ultimately we cure (or at least put in remission long enough the patient dies of something else) two-thirds of those people. But for three months nobody was doing Pap smears, mammograms, colonoscopies, and other tests to detect those cancers early, so they will be detected later, when the cancer is more advanced, the surgery/chemotherapy/radiation therapy will be more extreme, and the odds of cure less.

Same sort of thing applies across the board. Stop routine medical diagnosis and care, the cardiovascular disease gets worse, the renal disease gets worse, diabetes... etc. let alone increases in mental illness, child abuse, suicide, domestic violence, etc.

you can’t just count one side of 5he equation, you gotta count both sides.

I don’t think you answered their question. Unless you’re advocating killing millions as it’s much better than ruining the economy. The Chinese, the ones that most likely caused this not only shut their country down but were arresting people leaving their homes. Their shutdown made our lockdown look like a vacation. Beijing is under lockdown again as a second wave has started there. All that officials are asking you to do is to social distance and wear a mask. It’s pretty simple, we do that and the virus goes down if we don’t it goes up.

Oh we're including NJ now? And you're posting graphs of the nation and stats from Texas?

You're just a bad-faith debater and will wiggle like a worm whenever your points are disproven.
Here's the truth. There's a significant emerging outbreak that's begun in the American south and Arizona. It's yet to be determined how bad and for how long it will last.

A couple of key takeaways:
  • COVID doesn't give a crap about ambient temperature. We're firmly in the Floridian summer season, and daily cases are higher than they've ever been there.
  • Phase 2 opening up started 2 weeks ago. We're seeing the spike of new cases now. The corresponding fatalities should kick in around 3-4 weeks.
And to answer your other question about other viruses, you know this one is different. It's transmission and infectiousness are above average. It's not fatal enough to cause mass panic, but when combined with its infection rate can kill millions. The way it affects the human body is still not fully understood. There's reports that it attacks a number of major systems in the body. Long term effects are unknown. Who knows if you've beaten the virus you may have a resurgence later in life. (i.e. Shingles)

That said, I think, among the measures we took it could have been the most effective at reducing R; followed by mask wearing. Calling the virus a “democratic hoax” or waiting till you’d sold all your stock and shorted travel companies, was not effective.

Thats ok if you don't recall saying that.....it's recorded for posterity for you in your post #417 'It’s only 110,000 because we got R down by shutting down.'

If that isnt what you meant then you have me confused.......

You have implied that I think its a hoax. Nope I just think its herd mentality and terrible mismanagent.

You got me, excellent rebuttle. Well played, A personal attack always wins the crowd and importantly, the argument. Makes you look sharp of mind and moraly superior.

Now, I will place my raquet under my arm, meekly exit the arena and go hide under my bed again.

I am left dazed and very, very confused.

Because, what can you say to your logic? Instead of debating why don’t you tell us what you would have done mid March if it was up to you?

Probably somwthing very similar. Then I would have wound it back as quickly as possible as the information came through. Rather than politicising it I would have said......wear a mask and social.distance blah blah. No need to shelter in place.

Some people argue black and white. I do not. The answer was grey. Targetted measures were needed not wholesale lockdowns.

Complex problems have complex solutions, a total lockdown was not effective, efficient, suitable or sustainable.

Feel fee to dig up my old posts from March on this, they are probably similar to what Im saying now.

Yes and my feet only touch the ground because my legs are perfect length.

The meaning is in rhe words 'only' and 'because'. That implies a reliance on the lockdown measure alone. If they wern't important words then they should have been ommited from the statement.

That’s literally what has happened. Oh you mean you would have opened it up again like in April, with all those bodies stacking up?
