2. Treatment protocols have been changed/improved.
3. Quality/availability of care decreases once hospitals/ICUs overflow. (increases mortality) ...and that takes time.

The primary vector of transmission is hands to the face, Covid isn't airborne, it spreads through droplets. Face shields block almost 100% of droplets reaching a possible place where the virus can enter the body. Wearing a mask improperly, like 98% of people, is actually increasing the spread, especially increased touching of the face without washed hands.

COVID is unequivocally airborne. Whether or not that is the primary mode of spread might certainly be argued. The fact that it does occur isn’t really in doubt.
