Dr Goldman, a Rutgers microbiologist, disagrees with this statement. But what does he know?

I don't have his number, but I'm guessing he would respond by stating the obvious: Widespread mask use and air filtration -- not by cleaning surfaces.

If masks are so effective why have countries that have mandated mask laws, even outside, like Germany and Italy — have had their COVID case rates expand by several hundred percent?
If masks are so effective, why has Sweden, which has no mandated mask requirement — has one of the lowest COVID cases rates in Europe and frequently has a daily death rate of zero?
Science uses empirical data, observation of the real world, to formulate theories and beliefs. It doesn’t matter what an epidemiologist or politician says, at the end of the day what matters is measurable observation.
In the last three weeks Italy has gone from 2,500 cases per day to 20,000 cases per day, an increase of 800%. All the while masks are mandated everywhere in public, even outside.

I am in Germany almost every week and hadn't been required to wear a mask until 2 weeks ago. Unless in a crowed store masks were virtually nonexistent for months Europes mask rules were pretty lax. And thus the problem now.

It appears most people get it in situations where masks are not being worn. Family gatherings, parties etc. Not in grocery stores or airplanes where everyone wears masks.
My brother just tested positive after a date with a woman who tested positive after their date. My brother subsequently us for our son's birthday and gave our mother a ride in his car. He tested positive two days later.
I have been travelling Europe for work throughout the pandemic including travelling by airline a lot. I've been to all the hot spots. I followed mask , distancing and hygiene protocols and had a negative antibody test last week. I may now have gotten it from my brother because of course we don't wear masks around the house with close family over for a child's birthday. Getting tested on Monday. We will see. I'm not worried about myself but am a bit worried about my mother.
