The partial and temporary lock-down is to ensure it doesn't become catastrophic. The problem is: If it works, and I think it will, some people will say: "See the hospital system was never overwhelmed... It's not that bad".

I guess we will all know more in a few weeks.
So your story illustrating the crisis isnt really a crisis after all?

I thing it illustrates that we may not be far away from a (major) crisis in certain areas. I'm neither saying it's a full on crisis right now. It's not. Nor am I saying all is fine. It's not.

Sweden had one COVID death on October 28th. 1.

I’m not certain where the empirical justification and evidence comes from for lockdowns, mask wearing and other widespread suppression initiatives.

The case can certainly be made islands like Iceland and New Zealand can effectively lock down and suppress the virus, but outside of East Asia the COVID suppression measures are probably a total failure, perhaps leading to more death than if just the vulnerable were given guidance on how to protect themselves.

Humanity really botched this one up.

That presupposes that humanity had a choice on the matter and had different options based on known facts in Jan/Feb. I’m not convinced we did

Sure, but humanity should be capable of learning from acquired information and adjusting the plan accordingly.

+1. It is shameful that we are too prideful to admit we were wrong.

okay, should we have done the Swedish plan, the Chinese plan, the German plan, the Korean plan? And, how would Americans complied with any of those plans? Heck, NY, CT, NJ and PA governors knew about the elderly vulnerabilities and still sent them back to LTC.

Those governors should pay dearly for their terrible and callous treatment of their elderly but they will just blame big orange and be backed by their supporters in the media (brother in one case).

The Swedish plan was clearly pretty decent but fell under severe scrutiny because it didn't follow with "the science".

The Swedish plan would have been the smartest and easiest plan to follow... live your life while simultaneously isolating/protecting the elderly and immune compromised while beefing up your medical infrastructure. The rest of the world is repeating the failure of their idiotic closure plans and will die a slow economic death while not protecting their elderly/weak.
