This is my thinking exactly. Airbus has called the c-series "complimentary". Im thinking the CS-500 gets born and ultimately becomes the replacement airframe for the A320neo.
Regardless, this is great news for the CS100 and CS300 programs which will now be viewed more optimistically. I am sure more airlines will be interested.

"The move by Bombardier could possibly circumvent duties being imposed on the C Series. The C Series headquarters will remain in the Montreal area but a second assembly line for the 100- to 150-seat plane will be set up at Airbus' facility in Mobil, Alabama, so the plane can be sold in the United States.
Airbus Chief Executive Office Tom Enders said an aircraft produced at an U.S. Airbus facility would not be subject to duties under the pending U.S. investigation.
Enders said the acquisition extends the company's product offering into the fast-growing 100-150 seat market sector. Read that Times article: Airbus has stated they will build (and actually physically manufacture) exactly zero percent more here than they have to. They even import the parts and tooling from Europe. Hell: the wings and tail arrive by boat ALREADY PAINTED.
No exactly a “win” for US labor, but it will play well in the upcoming twitter storm.
