My comment was not about a good or bad deal. My comment was they will have no trouble picking up time and they won't. OOB trips are awarded the day prior.

So is it a good deal or a bad deal, Atlanta Al? For the sake of argument, say you're a NYC M88 pilot. Did you get a good deal or a bad deal? I'm asking you to state your opinion for the record. Did the company, acting within their contractual rights, give the NYC M88 pilots a good deal, or did it hang them out to dry and pull the rug out from under them, robbing them of their seniority in the process?

I once got triple pay to fly my own trip because of a clerical error in CS. The company might think that was not fair but it was the contract. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't. I have zero doubts that if you look at the Sep schedules for the pilots effected they will have done fine. I once had a major error on my PBS award. I wanted what I should have held however the contract says reserve or blank line in that situation. I was ticked but again it turned out fine.
I get that you want the company to waive anything you consider a negative effect. I am however 100% sure you are not going to waive the contract when something goes well for you. I certainly don't and I hold the company to the contract every time. It's hard for me to be ****ed off when they do the same. Recently I got the crew 21 hours extra pay because Go Jets canceled our DH flight at the rotation end. We were all deviating DH and the canceled flight changed nothing for us but it's the contract.
I would also point out that when a pilot experiences a true life event the company often steps up and does waive the contract to assist a pilot who truly has a tragic situation.

Kudos for the measured response. You do make some fair points. I hope you're right that all the affected pilots come out okay on the other side. The fact remains though that if they have any hope of doing so that it will require substantial effort that they shouldn't be reasonably expected to have to put forth. I know you'll never say that the company blindsided this group of pilots, but that's what happened. And the number of pilots affected is straight from the memo put out by Crew Resources. As for NYC M88B, there's still a dearth of trips in open time. And there's only one that doesn't touch a weekend.

It's just a shame when setting up the training schedule, they didn't anticipate the M88 pilot shortage. With proper planning they could have been given an opportunity to bid for a schedule in Sept.

See your triple-pay anecdote as an example. I am assuming some of that pay would have come to you if you didn't fly at all and yet you didn't sit at home and not work...or do I have that wrong?
The only reason the company handled their error as they did was to save money on the backs of those who got screwed (and those who would have gotten GS to clean up the mess). Completely legal, and completely the wrong call if you actually care about the Delta "family".

Who said this? Pay protecting someone doesn't make them stay home and not work. It accounts and compensates for the screw job, but they can still WS trips for additional pay.
