Yup, they are making a systemic change to be more efficient. They can assign the same things today they could yesterday. Your point? This is a shift in philosophy to gain efficiency. As a rule now we are not going to waste 3 hours of SC being ineffective.

You think this is a business decision based on kindness. Ok then.

I don’t know why they did it, and it doesn’t matter. The point is the change from 12 to 9 is not a bad thing.

At least you finally admitted that if they decide in the future to use more short calls, thats is entirely independent from the change from 12 to 9 hours.

Yes it is. The 9 hour change is essential to using SCs more efficiently, which is the focus not making commuting easier for you. I’ll bet more people will sit SC than have in the past, with all 7 used and coverage done more by SC. I also predict LC will become a thing of the past unless we are over staffed for the month. Sep, Jan, Feb etc.

This will shift us to a more short call based system. Delta’s long call is an anomaly in reserve systems. And much less efficient.
Statiscally useless????

Can a guy crack a brew?
Go on a trail run?
Commute home?

Whether you get used or not is irrelevant to many because SC is restrictive.

Secondly, many would rather fly on SC.

Finally, no one knows how this will affect us but I believe most guys are flying to ALV +15 anyway which was the last bogus "Boogeyman" from back.

You keep stating matter of factly that we will all sit more SC - let's just wait and see.

This is another forum tempest in a teapot. Remember all the angst over leaving the signed release at the podium? New guys probably don't even know what I am talking about just as guys next year will not want to extend their SC from 9 to 12.

A good thing
My 2 cents

I think they should make it voluntary. That way guys can do the full 12 hrs, so as not to get screwed.

I’m not wanting to be right but when viewed from the company’s perspective there is a lot of fat to be cut when using statistical data on when and how they use their reserves. I’m just pointing out the canary in the coal mine.

Frankly I’m surprised it took this long. I thought for sure this would come about after the “SC not in base” hoopla. I also think that’s the reason for the timing. Somebody did a deep dive into SC and reserve productivity after that. Now in the time of One Delta cost reductions they will be the hero that shifts reserve produtivity and reduces credit time (guarantee) paid to reserves.

It’s obscene but I have been paid 76 hours of guarantee and little or no flying regularly while bidding reserve. That hasn’t gone unnoticed. Celebrate if you like, I see change just over the horizon. Enjoy your adult beverage and the early trip home while you can. My (and all those playing the reserve game) good deal will eventually be not as good. Add that to the computer generated trip efficiency and we all become more productive or put another way, QOL is diminished.

Data drives their decisions and they will use it to find productivity and efficiency where they can within the PWA. This past summer is a perfect example. There’s a reason RCC requests are being ignored.

Go ahead and laugh at me. No, seriously I don’t mind. I’ll volunteer every SC. SC is easy peazy in base and knowing I’m 95% likely not to be used along with the cycle only moving 2 hours every day (1200 SC day 1, 1000 SC day 2 etc.) is nice. Granted, that can change if released early but it hasn’t. SC will be much less predictable and more frequent. For commuters this could get ugly trying to plan the normal commute and the timing of when to reserve a hotel for the in base nights. Good luck all.

I’ll gladly take the crazy pessimist internet award if it creates some thought and awareness.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend you. It’s just, after reading the whole thread, I thought it was pretty funny.
