Just curious.....

Now back to discussions that will be determined by... politicians....maybe by unions....maybe by lobbyists....maybe by the EEOC due to age discrimination

disclaimer: not for nor against....just curious
As soon as aviation handles accidents, incidents and fatalities the same way medicine does (closed-door and confidential morbidity and mortality conferences, aka M&M), this comparison will be valid. And the general public would probably hang a few physicians and evolve to implement a mandatory retirement age.

Reminds me of the days in my 20's in the military and guys were discussing retirement.....then you'd meet a retiree at the club and they'd say "I'll trade with you 0-3's in a heartbeat!"

Heard a song on the radio that basically said: "Not afraid of growing old, at least it's one less day I didn't die young"

This makes sense. Let’s be honest, life expectancy in Japan is much higher than that of the US, and the Japanese are much healthier on average than Americans (must be genetics because their food is definitely not always healthy.) Much less worried about Roboto croaking at the yoke than Billy John from Mississippi.

56 is mandatory retirement age for ATC (USA Federal Employee), pension is available at 20 years ATC service and age 50, or 25 years ATC and any age. You must have been enrolled in a federal medical plan at least 5 years prior to retirement to carry health insurance into retirement from the federal government....
But you can then work at a non-federal contract tower (NFCT) or work at a third world ATC facility as long as you can carry at Second Class medical

Im gona suggest the homogeneous dna pool has a lot to do with that stastic.

When one says 'american' its a highly varied dna pool with corresponding predispositions for chronic illness.

Comparing the US component dna longevity would likely reveal much less difference.

Toss in the very disperate social and cultural framework and any comparison is flawed at best.

Im thinking anyone leaving atc outside those gates is doing what is commonly referred to as 'quitting' and not retiring.

So its likely 100% of atc 'retirees' are leaving with a pension...and medical coverage.
