I see your point. I just have a hard time believing we are going to open up another hub, let alone one so close to ATL.

I do see more LATAM flying in ATL. And some more Delta flying in MIA. Enough to justify yet another pilot base? Nope.

I don't see a MIA base coming, but ATL can never be MIA as far as Latin America is concerned. It's the O&D, but also the best geography. South Floridians don't want to backtrack to ATL, nor do Latin Americans with destinations in Florida wish to overfly and backtrack.

Exactly this. ^^^^^

If you look at the amount of departures in and out of MIA\FLL now and then throw in some more for the feed, you could certainly justify a pilot base especially if there were a concerted effort to keep the feed to the Airbus family for example.

Just like opening the 717 in MSP, at some point you need the added reliability of having in base pilots instead of having DH people from 2 hours away anytime there is an irop. The out of base irop has become more problematic with far 117 as it is much harder just to “grab” someone in the middle of a layover due to prospective rest etc.

Supposedly BOS is going to generate 260 departures starting by the summer next year according to folks at the base. With that much traffic and international departures, I dont see how you could accomplish this without a pilot base. Imagine someone calling in sick or having an accident on the way into work(hope not) nearest base NYC would take around 4 hours to get a pilot in for backup. According to the guys at Park Plaza and at the Revere we have nearly 200+ pilots in hotels every night. Average per night off season is around $360, according to Plaza manager I spoke with. That's a lot of money on hotels! So seems to me a BOS base makes a lot of sense, as does MCO.

Once MCO finish the new terminal, we might see some expansion. If Delta doesn’t get their hand, it will lose market in Central FL.

MIA will be underwater in 10 years but MCO will be high and dry for at least 26 years. I am going with MCO.

I would wager BOS. Great news for those who live in New England.

And great news for mid-to-low seniority guys in NYC.

Been flying Trancons from Boston like crazy, from what I heard they're thinking of expanding beyond the Fed Ex Cargo area. Let's see.
