Moved - Flap setting trigger thread

I’m honestly quite baffled how your mentality made it to standards. It’s common practice on my fleet to do the control check on the ramp right as taxi begins. You know what’s a bigger reason of TOFU events? Rushing period. You seem to think that latency is more important than safety. If you ever debriefed me on latency on a line check I’d tell you exactly where you can stick it.

I can't believe you guys have spent 12 pages arguing about "dwell time" and the best time to set the flaps for takeoff. It must really be something to work at your Air Line with all of these First World Problems you have over there.

Rush to verify the WDR is a contributor to TOFU as it interrupts the after start checklist to Salute received flow and opens up opportunities for distractions when the same exact thing can be done off the ramp with significantly less threats. Furthermore, many who check the WDR after push procede to accomplish the control check and taxi checklist on the ramp opening up even more threats.

No one is talking about rushing. There is never rushing in my flight deck — it’s the first thing I brief.
As far as distractions, I think verifying the WDR when the aircraft is moving is a distraction. We are talking about 20-30 seconds to verify before a taxi that could take anywhere from 5 minutes to hours. Do the math. It’s a rounding error.

The old trigger worked for single engine starts followed by immediate taxi. It flowed well in that scenario.
It didn't work well if the CA decided to do the WDR, and it didn't work for two engine taxi. The new trigger works in all scenarios.

I'm paid to follow procedures, and I'm fine with that. But can someone please explain the hardover on Tofu? Taxi around all day single engine, obviously not a takeoff config, but do it with flaps up and the FOQA world explodes?

That's a good question, especially because a takeoff config would catch the flaps and not the engine. My guess is they wanted to fix flap problems, so they moved the standard earlier in the flight. We'd have the same procedure for engines if they didn't cost money to run or take time to start.

TOFU was more likely with your method. "Salute received, review WDR"

With my method? I think the new method is better than old method so I’m not following you
