At my last look about a month ago (helping a buddy make the same decision), the plug of the ATL 717 / 320 / 737 were within about 300 numbers of each other, so pretty much a push in my opinion.

If one wanted to live in or near slc or msp, what would be the quickest aircraft progression to that base? And what would offer a good mix of pay and quality of live if living in base......or very close....?

Thanks

As of the last bid, every NB category at the company, and every 757/767 category except SEA had unbid positions. Based on that I would say 73N/320 for either and 220 for SLC

if you think you will be able to bid a WB before 2 years (I don’t but I’ve been wrong before) bid the 717. If WB does drop below 2 years it would almost certainly be in NYC and since the 717 is not based there, it would allow you to transfer after 1 year.

if you think it will be more than 2 years (this is likely) I would say either the 320 or 7ER depending on whether you wanted to go 330 or 767-400 when you changed to WB.

This is free advise and you get what you pay for so keep that in mind

Well you’ll be tickled to know the 767-400ER is referred to as the “765” for whatever reason

That honestly depends. The 7ER went junior than both the 73N and 320 last couple bids. There’s going to be no 220 in ATL for a long time. And eventually it’ll only be 717 in ATL as DTW 717 goes away as the 717 goes away.

I wouldn’t spend too many brain bytes trying to figure it out...you'd be chasing a ghost.

You can't control what the people senior to you are going to choose. Figure out which planes/bases work best for YOU, and rank order them...that's all you can do.

Welcome to Delta!

Thanks. Excited for whatever comes my way, save maybe the DC-9

Yup....hold over from when we had the 737-200 (737 or 73S if part of Delta Express), 737-300G (73G) and the 737-800 (73N) all flying at the same time. The -800 was Next Generation so it got the N code. And then there is the 765 which is really a 767-400. At one point, ATL had a domestic category (764) and an international category (765). Guess they decided to keep the "5" instead of the "4" to keep it confusing. 😁

I head the -88 is coming back out of retirement next summer to pick up the slack because we now have too many junior pilots who will never be able to say "..back when I was on the -88..." 🤣
