So the LAX ER guys waiting to convert that were projected APR, now that have had junior guys on this bid get LAX ER mean they are converting next month too, right? Is my understanding of the contract right on that? It's the same AE.

If you are asking if on-property LAX 7ER B's automatically get converted because new hires were awarded those spots, the answer is no. You only get pay protection on the same AE if the junior pilot is converting FROM the same category to the new category. New hires are not converting from anything, thus no one one property from the last AE is converting from new hire status. Pay protection does not apply. It just sort of stinks, but at least those people will have some more junior guys beneath them whenever they do actually convert.

Also, junior people converting from the same category don't force the senior people to convert, it just forces the company to pay the senior pilot at their new rate eariler.

Keep in mind that during an AE, there don’t have to be positions posted for you to get a transfer. If a bunch of people bid out of a base, it’s typical that the company will back-fill at least some of those. Plenty of opportunity to get to NYC! Bid the airplane you want if it’s in NYC and you’ll be able to transfer pretty quickly.

Ah. Well thanks for explanation. Guess I'll have to wait another month for the bigger bump coming in.. I thought it'd be new hires and those waiting to convert.

They put every base change except the 220s out at 210 days for conversion off the October AE. Not sure if that’s fact or if they were just too lazy to put a different date in before publishing. You may be waiting until May.

The category you are converting from isn't part of the determination for pay protection it is based on the TO category.

Depending on the training required. A junior pilot already qualified on the fleet could go before a senior pilot that requires training.

If awarded via an AE, then its same posting going TO the same category.

If awarded via a VD, its same posting FROM same category.

PWA REF is 22.E.9

Ummm....not quite.I'll join the others and say that pay protection has nothing to do with where you are converting FROM but rather applies when a junior pilot to you, from the same AE who also requires training, converts into your awarded category before you do.

Now...don't get me going on reinstatements. ALPA completely and utterly dropped the ball on that gem.

Accurate! They literally rolled over and died without even a whimper. SMH.
