Not out of base on reserve. They can recreate a trip to be in your base, I.e. deadheads on the front and back. But you can’t slip out of base as a reserve pilot. As a line holder there are options.

As he says, with a line there are options. An out of base white slips (pickup at straight pay) are done the day before or day of the trip.

You mean everyone on property when it posts? Yes, everyone who is able to move (meaning base change only, not an aircraft change) will get what they want. No doubt.

The next AE award will have unfilled vacancies in every narrowbody fleet in every base, just like the last one (except maybe SEA 7ER).

Im curious about this as well, I have a CJO (still waiting on class date) and watching the drops it looks like NYC is drying up compared to earlier drops. I already commute so it wouldn't be a big deal to keep commuting (especially with the positive space, for as long as that is around), but would obviously rather drive to work.

Im assuming conventional wisdom is to bid for the aircraft types that are in your desired base so you can move at some point later down the road without worrying about a seat lock? How often is there an opportunity to change bases? Is there some way to do a base to base swap with another pilot outside of an AE or something along those lines? I've read back quite a few pages to try to figure it out but I'm still uninformed, to say the least, coming from a regional with only 2 bases, 1 fleet type, and base changes/upgrade bids that only happen when the company decides to do it. TIA

Do you still get a hotel in indoc and sim training if you live in the ATL area?

We generally do 4-ish bids a year. You can change base if they post a spot on your plane in that base, even if you are in indoc when it posts. So yes, wisdom is to bid for planes in your base of choice.
There is no way to swap planes or bases outside of an AE, except for some very specific circumstances (such as coming off of a leave of absence).

AEs happen about quarterly. They usually have a 210 day conversion window, but can be 365. I suppose in the past base-only conversions would happen soon after the AE awards came out, but that’s not the case right now. Definitely bid for equipment that is in the base you want if the base is more important than what you fly. No base swaps like at some of the regionals. Don’t mention it again unless you want the grumpy people that like to say the word abrogation to come out.

I would be shocked if future new hire class drops had no NYC positions. If there is a wide range of positions like there are now, unless you had an unusual amount of people in your class from the NE, you should be able to get NYC. I wouldn't be surprised if NYC still went to the bottom 1/3
