Good trip, need to meet GS threshold, you already had GS1, month is almost up, etc. There are reasons that have already been hashed out in other threads. (This is for the non-NYC community)

Why would you ever fly some of the garbage trips they build? For me those go in the bin whenever they can and I WS trips to get me to the trigger. Without a doubt the best trips to be had are the last minute ones. Think, easy turn or a 2-day with 1-leg out late and back early the next morning. Better as a greenie but damn good as a white slip if you have the flexibility.

For a while there was an entire little micro-climate community (largely the super senior ATL88 silos as the primary example) who would bid nice weekday trips they had no problem dropping or getting someone to pick up from them. They would then drop their entire month and only do the easy 2 leg 2 day trips you mentioned as they popped up. Late report, early release, 2-4 hours block for 10.5 pay. Add on even the occasional GS to that and they could find themselves in the exact scenario you referenced. Sometimes a WS is really a GS in a roundabout way.

Now you always get at least the ten minute offer window to evaluate a rotation no matter when it signs in.
They have to call and leave a message on both phone options you list in DBMS. Usually plenty of time after the phone rings to log into DBMS and accept the trip if you desire it.

Because my WS pays me more than your GS pays me.

lol best answer yet. If the trip really works for you or helps you out a WS would make sense for me.

as someone still learning the ins and outs of all this, why is NYC different?

I think he’s implying short notice WS are rare in NYC because most people are commuters, and can’t make it.
so the locals hawk short notice trips as Greenies.

at least I think that’s what he’s getting at

I was talking to a pilot in the NYC lounge last month that had commuted in a day early to "get a 2 day GS" trip that was noncommutable on both ends. So he had already planned on spending another night in NYC before commuting home.

I pointed out to him that he effectively just agreed to a 4 day WS trip except he agreed to pick up two of the hotels, so all GS's are not created equal.
