There's probably a better reference, but I'll point to SRH pg 108:
"Immediately upon completing a short call period, a reserve pilot reverts to long-call status. There is no automatic or routinely required rest following a short call period."
This would mean that it would be a FAR 117 violation to report at 1730 after entering long call at 1600. You would need at least 10 hours of rest.
There's no mechanism that I know of to string-out a SC beyond it's originally assigned/awarded end.

No.

Legal? Yeah. Unethical and skirting the intent of the law? Hell yeah. Ask me how I know this happens.
Probably need some protection that states SC cannot be delayed to depart beyond 1 hour (or whatever) past the end of your SC window. Because it’s BS when it happens.

Question for the reserve gurus:
Flying a 5-day GS all on X days with a set of RES days right after. PB days applied after the trip. Last leg (international) cancels and you end up working 1-day into what used to be on-call days (now PB days) and you get home >25 hours late.
Does that last leg credit towards reserve guarantee since you’re working on what used to be an on-call day?
