I probably run a 50/50 average over many years of commuting. It depends on a variety of factors. Mostly I change because a regular shirt is more comfortable. Most people still know your a pilot if you just toss on a sweater or change shirts. Pilot pants, pilot shoes, crew luggage, stickers, bag tags, hat, I’d, ect.. .. Your not fooling anyone.
On the subject of a partial uniform I believe that only applies if you want to drink. You can’t ask for a adult beverage if you are wearing any part of the uniform. This has bit pilots in the past.

Not a bad idea. But I just avoid doing anything that would be newsworthy while in the cabin... pretty much just eat, drink, read, or sleep. I guess if somebody tries to hijack the plane, then I'll be on the news. Other than that, low profile. I don't photograph or video-tape anything in the cabin.
It’s obviously a technique, but one I prefer for many reasons. Plus, being a Deltoid it allows me to take off the hat and put it in the bag, which is 50%+ of the reason.

The majority of the arguments here boil down to A) you're a chump if you wear a uniform and B) it's not that bad and has some advantages to wear it but you do you. I don't know why the A group is clutching their pearls.

Nice confirmation bias.
"Clutching pearls" is an example of what I'm talking about......it is intentionally incendiary...I must assume on purpose?

Well you sure see the arguments through some biased lenses. If you were to reverse the groups your summation would be just as accurate.

I dont videotape women. Worst i ever did was put on game of thrones episode and i found a 6 year old boy trying to watch through the seat cracks during a horrifying scene. I once had a woman hit me in a car on the way to work who couldnt wait for her big delta lawsuit becasue she saw i was in uniforn driving to work. I get there early. I iron. I take a little candy from the bucket in ops.
worked too long to lose my job from a viral video. This one is important, i dont trust the passengers to assume the best out of us when there are moments to become internet famous.

I know this isnt fair, but it might be humorous- i think youve got a better chance of being found naked in the woods with just a watch on and keeping your career, than being in your clothes, taping a woman from behind. Dont do either. (This is a repurposed pinnacle joke from 10 years ago and the watch guy has a great career. I would hope he wouldnt chris rock slap me for bringing it up for comedy purposes)

I commute in uniform to get through KCM as well. Then throw a adidas half zip on and hat goes in the bag. But I wouldn’t say my prime reason is because I want to cover myself up from doing this or something else stupid. I just don’t want everyone staring at me 24:7 so I can watch ESPN on the seat back in peace lol
still haven't heard a good reason to commute or DH in full uniform, vice uniform under a half zip. Maybe we are wrong...open to discussion as to why we should?? Change our minds!!
BTW...I heard of a guy who went to Goodwill and bought a gray half zip with a life insurance logo on it!! Lol!! Never had any issues on planes as a pax

I've found over the years very few reasons to be identifiable outside of the cockpit and many reasons not to. I know some just love to don the Liberace-esque Delta version of a pilot uniform and strut around to show people how impressed they are with themselves, but I think it's very prudent for those of us with some modesty and no delusions of grandeur to stay incognito as much as possible. Our uniforms should be updated to reflect these modern day threats.
Mickey Mouse is often referenced by our well-intentioned former Disney Exec who manages such things, but I've never seen Mickey standing in line to go to the bathroom at Disney World, or sleeping in a chair during three hour break.
