Are DL pilots still trying to get a contract? If so, why so much chatter about premium trips and stumbling to pick them up? Are these the same trips being revised and extended that many are complaining about? Seems to be self inflicted wounds?

RES GS and GSWC just kicks the company’s problem down the road.

This. When I bid reserve, no qualms about picking one up and rolling the thunder and getting some PB days if I can. As a line holder, much less inclined, because working more days, unlike on reserve.

Yep. And if we are not able to get PS Commuting extended, this will be why. Because some of our fellow pilots screwed the rest of us when they thought commuting in with a block-in time that was 3 minutes before report was cool. Or even worse, after report. We are our own worst enemy sometimes.

I don't see any problem commuting on a flight scheduled to get in 3 minutes before report. We can sign in from our phones. We are required to be at the aircraft 30 minutes prior to departure. I had a scheduled deadhead this week leaving 30 minutes after I was scheduled to get in. I've done scheduled 45 minute turns with plane swaps. It's okay for the company to schedule 45 minute turns but I can't commute in to a 63 minute turn? If our operation was more reliable, it wouldn't be a problem.

Even if you sign in on short final, by the time you deboard, walk to the next concourse, and show up to the aircraft 31 minutes before push, swim downstream the jetway past boarding customers, you are still ‘legal’. So…. whats the problem? Amirite?
You may get away with it, but multiple pilots per day doing that exact thing get a mx delay, or an ATC delay, and suddenly they are late. BTW, they can see the exact minute you scan through the gatehouse.
And you are also giving the company all the ammo they need to deny extending PS commuting. Or to agree to it, but mandate a backup flight and/or a 2 hour minimum block in to report time.
And you’ll probably ***** about that later. SMFH.

You are missing the point. You have zero room for error, but you are in fact legal. We gnash our teeth and excoriate the company for planning the operation/house of cards with zero room to recover from disruption, then turn around and do the same thing?

are you saying we should set a good example and then the company will follow our lead????
That’s some funny stuff there!!!

We’ve gone down a bit of a rabbit trail here. My real beef isn’t as much with those who cut it very close. It’s really with those who outright plan to fail. The collective “we” can’t complain about not getting PS extended when we defend those few who screw the rest of us. Just like the 4 fired whale pilots who failed to commute at all - and we wasted massive credit getting 3 their jobs back, IMO.
BTW, I no longer commute, so it’s no skin off my nose if the commuters don’t get PS permanently. But it would be a darn shame if ‘we’ don’t.

One early AM winter departure where light snow had (quite obviously) fallen and accumulated, a JS'er nervously asked "you're not going to have to deice are you" as he looked at his watch. Even as the FO I promptly answered "absolutely". He looked over at the CA like a defense lawyer objecting and the CA's non-response clearly indicated it was over-ruled.
His commute plan all week had been one flight that got him in at report time with no room to spare. We also held for a turn or two as he squirmed in the JS. Ended up almost on time anyway and he bolted off.
Total face palm plan, even if it did end up "working" for him. PS or not I don't roll like that. If I'm down to my last $100 or so in retirement that I blew on an extra hotel I got bigger problems than that anyway.
