It often seemed to me the guys who couldn't be bothered to look at least vaguely presentable carried that lack of effort into the cockpit.

I've found that guys who wear their jackets outside of mandatory wear days and circumstances often did stuff in the cockpit that was completely unnecessary and projected that nonsense on everyone.

Both are true. Common sense applies. March in MSP? Guess what? I'm wearing the jacket, and so too are 95% of the pilots walking in the terminal, even though they don't "have to." June in ATL or MCO (or anywhere else)? Anyone wearing the jacket is someone I'm leery of. Probably wears the hat on the employee bus as well.

I hate them and if I have my pullover on I would rather be comfortable. This is commuter 101.

No "fashion noose" for me on the flightdeck or when incognito. You are free to call me slovenly and unprofessional, I don't care. I comply with the uniform (sans hat) but only when required. There is a lot of time that it isn't required. The hat debate will rage on until it gets changed. I will serve the penalty if/when enforced, just as I would have during negotiations and with orange lanyards. Today's Delta allows freedoms with every other work group's attire so I really don't think I'm pushing corporate boundries but rather flight ops intransigence.
