Any "Latest & Greatest about Delta?" Part 2

that senior person is getting the best trips and then usually giving them away on the Swap board. So junior guys get their sweet trips.
then the senior guy can try to credit surf or hope for SS. it’s not like SS go out every month.
I’ve been junior, and I’ve been senior. I’m cool with SS. especially cause they are usually crappy bid package trips. I haven’t flown any yet, cause I don’t want to fly those crap trips. Not even for double pay.

Commuting is a choice. I live in base. I support PS commuting.

you realize sitting around an airport is how a lot of commuters handle short call right?
VAS as it sits now is 6 hours and starts your FDP not just RAP at start time. It also significantly limits the kinds of trips you can be used for. a commuter would probably overwhelming prefer it for several reasons and it would even have some advantages for pilots who live in base somewhat near the airport.
i disagree that the concept of pilots at an airport is unbecoming of our profession and as long as it stays voluntary I think most pilots have no issue with it.

The real solution is to increase SCC and make SC voluntary.
VSC > VAS

We shouldn't have anybody sitting in the airport for hours on end, including commuters. I've done it, I know dozens of people who have done it, some 8 hours, some 4 hours. We universally despised it.

One of the few things I thought Alaska did better then us is bidding specifically long call and short call for a month with no conversions. Commuters could bid long call and know they won’t be converted to go sit short call with the normal ALV. If you lived in base you would or could bid short call and the guaranteed reserve credit would jump from 72 to 80. Financially incentivizing those in base to bid short call while allowing those who commute the assurance they won’t have to needlessly come into base and not get used. Win win imo. Also had nice features like princess parking if you were called within 4 hours of the actual report on short call which depending on the base could be great or useless. Food for thought.
Past problem with SC lines is having the same callout the entire month. Definitely don't want the crap shoot like JetBlue. Would we bid for specific times each block of reserve, day by day? How did Alaska handle the times?
I feel like making entire lines of SC is too much change leading to unintended consequences. Past airline had them, we saw all the LC get used first. Scheduling would break up trips just to get the LC pilot in the system, making them commute anyway (a lot like they are using SC now).
Voluntary SC with more credit for each one and no limit seems like the sweet spot unless I'm missing something.

Automatic princess parking is really nice.
