Most regionals have stronger contractual commuter clauses than Delta.

No backup flight required, just get there.
If you miss 3 trips in a rolling 12 months, you need a backup flight (spaced reasonably but no 2 hr rule) for a year.
You don't get paid for missed trips and there's no "coaching".
Personally I think positive space to AND FROM is the only way to make commuting a true option.

I agree we need United DH and ZED rules too (fix your IT if that's really the reason).
Here's my hot take from way back before I became an air line pilot. Make pilots a higher non-rev priority. We get a later start and earlier retirement than any other group. Our time on active status is pinched on both ends.

The problem with VAS is that airport standby is a miserable job, fatiguing, and can too easily become non-voluntary in the future.
You know how scheduling can find the perfect trip a minute before your SC expires? Imagine the same thing after sitting around the airport for hours. It's not becoming of this profession.
Having done them in a past life, I don't wish them on my worst enemy.

VAS as it sits now is 6 hours and starts your FDP not just RAP at start time. It also significantly limits the kinds of trips you can be used for. a commuter would probably overwhelming prefer it for several reasons and it would even have some advantages for pilots who live in base somewhat near the airport.
i disagree that the concept of pilots at an airport is unbecoming of our profession and as long as it stays voluntary I think most pilots have no issue with it.
