The Gumm Strikes Back
#1
Ryan Gumm will return to Flight Ops to lead the division as S.V.P. – Flight Operations, effective immediately. In addition to serving as the airline’s FAA certificate director of operations, Ryan will oversee all flight operations departments including flying and line operations, crew resources and scheduling, flight training and standards and flight safety.
Ryan, a pilot and Navy veteran, brings a great breadth of operational experience back into the Flight Ops organization. As many of you know, he joined Delta in 2016 as Vice President of Flight Operations, leading our technology, simulator, business strategy and contract administration programs. He went on to lead our Operations & Customer Center (OCC) and Ops Analytics teams, where he and those teams have done a remarkable job of safely rebuilding the operation and positioning the airline to deliver reliable performance at pre-pandemic levels of flying. Prior to joining Delta, Ryan served as the CEO of Endeavor, the President & COO of Delta Private Jets, and the President of Comair.
Ryan (FOP), Mahendra Nair (TechOps), David Garrison (CSSC), and Matt Sparks (OCC & Ops Analytics) will report directly to me. Brad Sheehan, Patrick Burns and Heather Tardif will report to Ryan.
Ryan has the heart, the know-how, and the extraordinary drive it takes to lead our 15,000 pilots – the world’s premier aviators – into the future. You’ll hear more from Ryan very soon. In the meantime, please join me in welcoming him back to Flight Operations and congratulating him on his new leadership role.
All my best,
John Laughter E.V.P. and Chief of Operations

Excellent news Capt Gumm is a strong asset to Delta with experience in nearly all aspects of the operation. He will serve Flight Operations and ultimately, the pilots, well. Also, great to see a pilot back in charge of Flight Ops although JL did a great job

At least to some people, anyway
Can’t wait for his continued “service” to the pilot group!

His 2018 "found staffing" solution when he stopped hiring was one of the worst QOL changes in the last decade.

Wow, just wow. Thanks for this.

No way you’re a line pilot. Even the most moderate pilot can’t be affected by his lack of candor and how he destroyed this pilots’ group morale. I can’t believe anybody who flew under he’s tenure could write such propaganda. Good luck to us all.
