When you fly with someone who talks like this, stifle your laughter, and ask about their involvement in the union. Half the time it’s someone who has never volunteered or represented anyone in ALPA and just hate unions, but also ironically lose their minds that their union didn’t get them more (see recent post about abandoning them with the 4th pillar).

The other half of the time they will eventually share that they and their friends were voted out by some shady back room politics(not saying that DALPA politics aren’t petty and stupid because they shockingly are). These pilots will provide some insight into the personalities of the reps and MEC officers but you have to filter through the obvious bias.

Vapid, non-witty, and predictable response. Let me make sure I understand this.

If they've never volunteered, they should shut up.
If they volunteered and got tossed out or quit due to political BS, they should shut up, but their story will be interesting.

Yes, great contribution. You must be an alpa guy. Did the mean lady scare you?

if you’ve spent 30 years here and are this angry at new people and your union without having actually worked to change anything, yeah, your opinion should be disregarded.

VP-Flight Operations and System Chief Pilot

Believe it or not this was actually said. I guess we can now see why “always keep your deals” was taken out of the rules of the road this year. Why would anybody go the extra mile when the company management makes a statement like this?

looks like someone needs to go find his name on the “Thank You” jet and post it in social media. Your company family loves you so much and they did that for you.

ALPA is a political machine. They don't want your opinion. If you go there with the intent to 'change things', 1 of two things will happen. 1) you will be shut out of any meaningful involvement in anything, or 2) you will get discredited. There is an agenda, and while you might think that 'volunteering' and being involved makes your a part of that system, you aren't... UNLESS, you agree with the inner circle and lick those boots. They don't want dissent other than a few actual lambs.

I know several guys that went there with the intent of making changes, and those things are exactly what happened to them.

Prove me wrong.

You'll learn

It's also a tragedy that you discount mine so readily. But that is your cross to bear. I've been there and I know what's in your future.
