ALPA is a political machine. They don't want your opinion. If you go there with the intent to 'change things', 1 of two things will happen. 1) you will be shut out of any meaningful involvement in anything, or 2) you will get discredited. There is an agenda, and while you might think that 'volunteering' and being involved makes your a part of that system, you aren't... UNLESS, you agree with the inner circle and lick those boots. They don't want dissent other than a few actual lambs.
I know several guys that went there with the intent of making changes, and those things are exactly what happened to them.
Prove me wrong.

It also says a lot about those who float to the top and why they do so.

They also brought us things like MEMRAT for LOAs, and other good changes that never would have been considered under the old regime.

I love how Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon keep agreeing with each other. I thought they were supposed to hate each other.

Oh no! A whole decade! 15 years!
Was that the decade when we got furloughed after 9/11 while the regionals hired and flew our routes, then slapped us in the face by telling us we had to resign our mainline seniority number to work there?
Yes, how patronizing of us to ask for a job to put food on the table whilst furloughed and the regionals grew, and not want to give up our Delta seniority number. Bet you fought pretty hard for us. Oh wait...
Then you threw us under the bus again by laughing in our faces as DALPA crumbled the 4th pillar and gleefully voting yes to get yours while we got left behind.

If you want to get philosophical, that's fine, because frankly, most governments other than a benevolent dictatorship suck, and even that would when said dictator dies and the next one takes over.. ALPA, like all representative democracies fail because there is no limit to how long those in power are allowed to remain so. And before you go there, people are apathetic so the whole ballot box idea of term limits is folly. I'll bet if we had an election on just about anything right now you would be lucky to get 30% participation. But there is a lack of checks and balances within alpa that is obvious, but unlikely to ever change.
