the dude made a passing snipe at positive space for commuters via a story that isn’t plausible. what should i give up as a non commuter for this? Be specific

What did you give up to get commuter parking paid?

I commuted for 30 years and never had a failure to commute so I was a bit surprised. I was not concerned because scheduling called me for the GS at 10AM with a major snowstorm in the NE. I told them I could not make it and they begged me to just try.
I opted out of principle to not take the letter and use the contractual policy even though I new the CP would squash the letter. Funny part was that when I called Crew scheduling to tell them I was unable to commute they said no problem flight already canceled. They then offered me a much better GS with a later report and positive spaced me up. I also got paid for the first trip.
Karma!
What's a Base Manager, and when did they enter a pilot's disciplinary chain of command?

It has never been legal for them to put anything in anyone's file without going through the PWA disciplinary processes.

When did GS calls become mandatory? Even before ARCOS they were a proffer. You mean they begged you, and you said ok, then didn't make it, and they "put a letter in your file"? Were you a flight attendant?

This story doesn't make sense.

Sailing's stories are always full of half truths. His memory is VERY fuzzy.

Your memory is fuzzy. Green slips were most definitely not a proffer when I got here 10 years ago. If you answered the phone it was yours unless you couldn’t make it in time or had other issues. (Alcohol, child care, etc).

Cool. Did the "base manager" write you up too, and put a letter in your file?

Sailing said 2015. Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure that's when the rules changed.

I thought GS weren't proffers until the advent of ARCOS, which was what, 2018-ish?

Well hell, maybe my memory is fuzzy too. I was on a NB then, but I really don't do them much. I enjoy my time off too much.

correct. Your proffer was answering the phone or listening to VM and calling back in the 10 (12?) minute window

Its exactly what happened and that base manager now is a higher up in crew planning where I had a subsequent issue with her. When NY shuts down for snow they start begging. You can always refuse a GS if you can't get there. They were however not proffers. You must be new. I refused many last minute calls with zero issues. They asked me to try and I agreed as it was a super easy ferry to ATL for 20 hours pay. There was a period of time where flight ops had a policy that if you asked for PS they would put a letter in your file. My mistake was that I tried to call CS first for positive space and could not get through despite repeated tries. I should not have called the CP. As to your comment the base manager can't discipline at the time they said it was not a discipline letter but regardless it would go through the CP and if you read what I stated I said I knew without question he would squash it very flat.
P.S. For those wondering I am not talking about Angie. If you were on Angie's good side she was the best base manager anywhere. She applied common sense to any situation regardless of what the policy might be.
