If he’s worried about “killing the golden goose” here at DL, I can’t imagine what he’d be saying as an AA pilot.
DL is far from being squeezed by the cost of our contract. The massive unplanned increase in present value is most definitely leverage. We will use it put a slightly larger share of that $5 billion profit in our pockets.

Let them try and hire their way out of this mess. I think it'll take more than they're projecting. I don't see that as wasting our leverage, that's a pretty great use of our leverage. And the underlying issue will still be there so if they want to shortstaff us again, the problem will kick back in.
If they do want to get rid of it, they'll pay for it, whether it's soon in a quick contract or later after a drawn out negotiation.
The worst we can do is trade it for pennies because of oil may spike (and go back down), UA is getting close to our massive profits (when the two companies are almost all the US industry's entire profits), 23M7 disruptions might be kind of alleviated by growing our seniority list by over 10%, etc.

I mean, the PWA says what it says, whether we like it or not. We certainly claim the sanctity of PWA language when it benefits us. Two can play that game. I think the company can easily play the "past practice" game and compare rates of Auto Accept usage now vs two years ago. You get the idea.

Yes, and he said that 4% across the board was valued at $500M. So, the math of 10% of the $5B profit still checks out.
“This raise is possible thanks to your solid performance and Delta’s strong foundation. It represents an additional $500 million annual investment in Delta people, on top of regular pay step increases for many of our frontline teams.”

Pretty much on the same day as they let a bunch of workers go, talk about salt in the wound to them.
In other news, it's 0800 and we've already cancelled 165 flights today. At this rate, we're on our way to cancelling more flights than an airline that ceased operations today (RIP Spirit! Great people over there). I saw on the 1May engage podcast, they said no major movement in the contract talks, which isn't a great sign. Sadly, it looks like this summer is going to get real ugly, real fast.

Once again the non-cons can thank us for their raise. No way it happens right now if we’re not in contract negotiations.
If mgmt comes to the table on Monday and says “4% is the most we can give you, that’s all we gave the non-cons,” I hope DALPA walks away and starts planning for how to do everything legally possible to make mgmt miserable. It might not be much, since mgmt is doing everything possible to make themselves miserable…they just refuse to see it.

The concept of "past practice" is for items not delineated in the PWA.
