I used to treat, but no one ever said thank you, so I no longer treat. Sigh….

I'm a millennial, I was raised to say "thank you" and "you're welcome". I've had captains even thank me for saying it after they pick up the tab or whatever, blows my mind that people don't say that after receiving a free cocktail or even a full meal...

I will always be thankful if someone wants to pay, but I never expect it and will gladly repay it when it's my turn.

This. Never expected, always appreciated. It’s a shame, but common courtesy is trending toward not so common these days. When someone offers to get you something—the only correct response is “thank you” or “no, thank you.” It’s not rocket surgery.

Makes me wonder if HK’s case was a post-Covid hire who got super lucky and went straight to a WB, and so doesn’t have the cultural norms as engrained? 🤷‍♂️
This is kind of why I don't want to fly a WB here. The peer pressure to hangout on overnights seems like a lot. And if one declines, it seems like you all gang up and think said pilot is a weirdo.

See: last few pages of this thread for evidence.

Are there not relief lines anymore? Usually never fly and never see the same crew long enough to hang out.

Definitely don't avoid WB just because of what you read on this forum. As you know, it's just sport b*tching. But there will always be outliers in any category.

I've never experienced peer pressure to hang out. But I'm an adult and, if I don't want to go out for whatever reason, I'll just communicate before I slam click. CRM goes beyond the cockpit, whether we'd like to admit it or not.

Welcome to Costco, I love you.

It’s really not like that. Over the last 9 years I’d say I’m 60/40 out with crew or solo. It’s been trending toward 50/50 because I have sights I like to see and restaurants/bars where people know me. You want to tag along, cool, no? See ya mañana. But I’m always up for a new place, too. Most of the time other pilots are interested in being shown around and are genuinely excited to get one of my Apple Maps Guides with a 100+ places marked on it. Besides, folks have their own, sleep/eat/workout routines that don’t always align.
