It’s none of my business how anyone, including the multi-millionaire captain I’m flying with spends his money.
Im not arguing your perception of this guy as a weird dude. He may have been. Also, he might have just been sick of talking to you. Maybe his wife just left him?
And I don’t loan coworkers money. If I can manage to carry a pile of $1s as a simple GenXer then everyone else can too.
As someone who worked as a pilot hiring professional I would have hoped you had a more nuanced view of humans and human interaction.

Even in Europe where tipping waitstaff is not required, we tip the van/bus drivers. When 11/12 people are doing it, something is not like the others, and there is usually a good underlying reason for that.

I like to go out on occasion. But I much prefer to do my own exploring. I just don't need to spend that much more time with someone who I just spent 12 hours and am going to spend another 12 hours with after I sleep. We can still work together well without spending every waking hour together
But to grab key, depart solo to the room without saying "see you tomorrow", and never be seen again until the pickup time, that's not normal. It's not having a bad day, it's behavioral. it's anti social, and it's an issue.

But thanks for the fantastic contribution.

And I'm happy things are better for our younger cohorts, but you tend to appreciate things more when they're harder earned.
Sounds kinda like you may have experienced one of these types...a gen z on a legacy widebody!

I dunno, I kind of side with HK. I get it’s a job. But we’re all in it together and it’s good for pilot camaraderie to hang out a little under ideal hangout circumstances (cool crew, cool overnight).
It’s just so weird to have this job and never take advantages of its trappings.
flame away.

Makes me wonder if HK’s case was a post-Covid hire who got super lucky and went straight to a WB, and so doesn’t have the cultural norms as engrained? 🤷♂️

What do you mean it's none of your business? You and the FA's all tipped the van/bus driver but this person did not? That's not normal behavior. $2 is pocket lint for a Delta Pilot. Even one on first year pay. I could understand an new hire FA not tipping, but they do. I've seen it. It's a social construct and it's part of normal behavioral patterns.

How do you not understand how knowing how or why someone spends their money is none of my business? Go ahead and post your W-2 and mortgage amount. I’m super interested. Also, please include a detailed breakdown of how much you donate to charity and name those charities. Annoyed yet?
You seem really hung up on how a guy spends a $1. You have a serious blind spot on why maybe your FO didn’t want to have dinner with you.
