Since I'm a SEA guy and would not bid the 330 anywhere else, I wonder how often SEA reserves are called on to cover out of base Africa trips. I guess I could avoid it by not getting the theater qual.:) That is unless I got it on a TOE. DOH!Anyway, I'm just what if'n right now.

The best thing about bidding it is I might get to fly with Ferd!:D

Denny

Ask your FO Rep. He sits reserve occasionally.

Yes I would. I am not going to keep opening the wounds. Time to move on.

One of these days bro, one of these days. I'm not cool enough yet. Still working on that.

I've been considering it for a while but didn't want to be super junior, get only a 70 hour guarantee and go to Africa constantly. The last couple of years I've been able to hold Xmas off by bidding reserve. I don't know if that's going to happen anymore......

I'd be sooooo junior on it that I'd be getting guarantee which is not to bad with the new PWA. Plus I live (no traffic) 25 minutes from the airport parking lot so being that junior is not a big problem. My youngest just graduated from High School so I don't have to worry about being off for his activities any more. Anyway, I'm seriously thinking about it. If I do, you are going to have to give me the gouge for it!!:D

Actually, that is not correct. The way the federal law reads is the first $50,000 of employer coverage is at no cost to the employee. After $50,000 coverage the company is required to report as income the cost of the additional coverage (in other words if you elect $500,000 of coverage the company is required to report the cost of the additional $450,000 of coverage as income). On my Dec 31, 2011 pay statement it showed $1200 of income for the additional coverage which is actually a fair price given that the coverage does not require a physical. As a point of note I recently priced out a new 10 year term policy (I am 55) and it would cost $75/month so you can get it a little cheaper (if you have excellent health and you're willing to go through the full application process with a physical). Also, some of this coverage can be maintained after retirement as a decreasing term policy.

There is some miss understanding on the insurance. If your in a 30 percent tax bracket then the actual cost of the insurance would be 400 dollars a year or about 33 dollars a month. You wont be that rate trying to get insurance on your own.
