All you guys are saying good bye to Carl. Assuming he has logged off, can anyone post his comment where he actually said he was pulling the ejection handle? I couldn't find it. Only uncertainty and hints of a maybe. He is a 56 year old 747-400 Captain. Why would he hang his hat up? Secondly, has anyone heard how many guys ARE actually pulling the handle? Probably just Carl and one other guy.

Does anyone know if there is an incentive for us to lower the benefit pay out from our Delta provided life insurance? I think my pay out is around $700,000. I thought I read somewhere that we get something upfront in exchange for agreeing to a lower benefit pay out. I couldn't fine it anywhere in the TA/PWA but I didn't feel like digging too deep.

Look on your check stub and you will see in the top left column a "LIFETXVAL" column. This is the value the IRS says that the life insurance is worth. It basically increases your taxable income by that amount each check. Mine has been $23.15 per check this year. If you elect a lower pay out then that value will go down. So the actual cost of that insurance really depends on your tax bracket. I figured mine is costing me about $14 per month because it raises my taxable income for Federal, State, SSI, and Medicare by $46.30 per month.

As an MD-88B I once DH to CAE to fly one leg back to ATL. When the aircraft came in, I went up to the cockpit to make my nest. The FO said "Are you deadheading?" I said, "No you are." Scheduling hadn't told him he was a 30/7. He DH to ATL and then continued his rotation. Again, not sure if we can do that now.

Nope - still legal. And that doesn't surprise me in the slightest he didn't know. In other news it's near impossible to get to 30/7 with as unproductive as these trips can be (ahem cough where is the RCC??)

TYVM! Follow up ? WRT the policy > Do we keep the policy into retirement or do we have to die as an active employee for the benefit to be paid out?

Without going to the contract, I think it remains in force after retirement but the coverage decreases by $50k each year following retirement.

I used to find some value in your posts, but now I pretty much just scan past them. You're quick to accuse others of throwing grenades and running away, yet you fail to realize that you are guilty of the same thing.

Believe it or not, the debate was actually more civil in your absence.

Yeah I apologize for that. I just got tired of half truths being portrayed as fact, and yes voters being portrayed as spineless gutless, ball-less etc etc.. and I fought back.

Oh, and as for coming back.. I have my reason.

A little off topic but I seem to remember some sort of bulletin or something about not having to fly to Africa on short notice if you haven't been taking malerone pills. Anybody know where that bulletin is? Or is it in the FOM now and I just cannot find it? Thanks for any help.

Yes, but there is an out there too if they need to assign it. It is 48 hrs if the trip is "known" but normal if someone sicks out on short notice. Its now incorporated in to the new PWA.
